I'm walking 30 miles in September

I’m walking 30 Miles in September and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Day 10. Nothing much

Thursday 11th Sep
Wet, miserable day. Decided to go round marine lake at 4.15 but there had been a high tide and I didn’t want to get my feet wet. Met Michael Derbyshire. Haven’t seen him since before Covid

Day 9. Grange Hill

Thursday 11th Sep
Walked up thru the residential housing route & saw a little girl collecting shiny conkers with her mum. I gave her one. The view from the trig point was fab. On the way home, not far from the Ring O’ Bells, I bumped into Sue & Phil Smith walking their dog. Good catch-up.

Day 8. Red Rocks

Thursday 11th Sep
Walked along the Prom and on down to Red Rocks with Randall. Deceptively sunny at first, but v breezy when heading back across the top end of the golf course. Just avoided the rain.

Day 7. The Day of Rest 😂😂

Monday 8th Sep
In truth it was a pretty wet horrible day. But I did walk to church and back.
I drove over to Birkenhead and walked to concert in the library.
And amazingly, this day of inaction still came to just over a mile!

Day 6 Grange Cemetery

Monday 8th Sep
Walked up Laing Lane and bumped into Fiona formerly from Walsh’s Pharmacy. Also had seen Heather Chapman. Went into the cemetery and found Di Baddeley’s headstone. Also found Gourley’s grave and that of Headmaster Glasspool’s son - a 1940 victim of WW2. Walked on up Black Horse Hill and down Village Road.

Day 5. War Memorial

Friday 5th Sep
Up the hill to the West Kirby War Memorial. Walked up the main road and came back down the far side down past Belmont Rd & in to town. Glorious views from the top over the sea to Hilbre Island and to the wind farms.

Day 4. To the Lion

Friday 5th Sep
Usual walking about West Kirby. Main outing was through Ashton Park, past the flooded bowling green to the White Lion. Met Neil for an afternoon catchup

Day 3. To the shops

Wednesday 3rd Sep
Walked from home into the shops in West Kirby via Ashton Park. Called in Morrison’s and then home along the blustery Prom. The windsurfers were having a great time.
Big news. Have loaded Fitbit App on to phone and iPad & hopefully synched to Dementia site. According to the App, I’ve just walked 1.7 miles 👍

Day 2. Helen’s BBQ up Black Horse Hill

Wednesday 3rd Sep
Walked up to Helen’s on Black Horse Hill for end of summer BBQ with the Drunken Singers. Walked up with a full back pack and walked home with a full stomach and an empty back pack. Choir begins next week. No singing tonight, just a lorra, lorra, laffs.

Day One Round the Marine Lake

Tuesday 2nd Sep
Walked around the Marine Lake with Randall. It’s 2300 metres which is approx one and a half miles. We then extended the walk to go through town and home via Ashton Park. So we probably covered about 3 miles.
Randall told me all about his trip to Rome with Brian.

Walking back to Memory

Monday 1st Sep
Mum's just been diagnosed with vascular dementia. We haven't told her. What's the point? She's really chirpy at the moment.
So, I heard about this challenge from Valerie,  and I thought, what a wonderful thing to do. Hopefully raise some money and get me off my backside.
