I'm cycling 300 miles for Dementia UK

This June, I'm cycling 300 miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. Just £8 can cover the telephone costs for two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

Final week - the pressure mounts

Tuesday 24th Jun
Just over 100 miles to do in the last week!  Hoping I am fitter than I was at the beginning might have to be a very long ride at the weekend!

Day 13 - 13.3 miles riding home from Southmead.

Friday 13th Jun
Extended journey home - this time a good one. Through a couple of nice parks and no nasty areas!

Day 10 Extended journey to Southmead and back…

Tuesday 10th Jun
To avoid arriving too late for tea I decide to extend my journey to the hospital as well as the one on the way back - interesting route through some less known parts to Bristol.

Day 8 - Ride out to Nailsea - another 25 miles down

Sunday 8th Jun
Pleasant ride out but only to find that the pub I had targeted was closed down!  Found a Waitrose on the high street and had a ‘meal deal’ lunch.  Wind behind me on the way back which was nice.  Popped into our local Waitrose to get stuff for tea.

Day 6 - Long ride home from Southmead

Saturday 7th Jun
Extending the ride home from volunteering, not a lot of fun to be honest - up to Cribbs and then back again.  Yorkshire is much prettier!  Won’t repeat!

Day 4 - Another windy ride in Yorkshire.

Saturday 7th Jun
Shorter ride (11.1 miles) but it seemed harder work - the wind still very strong.  Stopped at a garage and got a can of Wensleydale IPA as a post ride treat!

Day 3 Riding in Yorkshire

Wednesday 4th Jun
A windy ride through beautiful Yorkshire countryside. 17 miles, current total  29 miles  so only slightly behind par.

Day 1 - 12 miles in Bristol

Sunday 1st Jun
Ride up to Stoke Gifford and back through the hospital so familiar territory.

Why am I doing this?

Friday 30th May
Well the obvious reason is to raise money for dementia uk to help their great work.
But also to remember my mum and dad both of whom had dementia.
Finally to keep me get fitter  and explore a bit more of the  countryside around Bristol.
