I'm walking 62 Miles in October

I’m walking 62 Miles in October and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need. I would be grateful for your support.

An £10 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Good Afternoon Guys, I am not going to lie, I am more than a little emotional this afternoon, after once again reading all of your wonderful messages of support with your donations.
A massive thank you today to Lisa Martin & Robbie Moss for your wonderful donation, I know this is an illness that both of you have had to experience first hand so it is very much appreciated.
To my own rock, Rachel Mary Garcia Garforth who without her support, I am not sure I would ever have been able to get through the past 7 years, let alone be able to provide the support & care we did to Mum and Dad. Thank you so much for your lovely words and donation, thank you for everything and if I dont say it enough I truly appreciate all that you do for me and my family xxx

I am now over the 80 mile mark since 1st October 💪🚶, not sue on my steps count.
Im walking a minimum of 2 miles a day for the whole of October to raise awareness of Dementia and the impact that it has on the family.
My mum suffered with "Mixed Dementia" for over 7 years till her passing last September. I appreciate time are difficult at the moment, but if you wanted to donate, it truly will make a difference for Dementia UK and the support it offers to families.
I have added a few images of my walk tonight, a lovely picture of my wonderful Mum, this picture was taken of Mum during her time at Kirkby House x
I am not the only member of our family doing their bit to Fundraise atm, our wonderful grandaughter Daisy has been fundraising herself, for the NICU at Whiston Hospital.
Daisy Anne Garforth is the beautiful face of their charity campaign, the picture was taken at just 5 days old and is being promoted on Social Media and on a massive board outside the hospital. I may have done my bit to raise funds and awareness over the past 20 years, but im never going to compete with Daisy at just 5 days old. Proud doesn't even go near to what we are all feeling. Good morning guys, very early start this morning as I have an early start for work. Lovely walk, extremely tough video this morning, which just reminds me why I am doing this.
Sending all our love to Jerry, this morning as its his mums 5th anniversary today, and Jerry won't mind me thanking him publicly on here, given the context. Jerry helped me a lot in understanding Mums dementia, explaining the things he and his family were doing for his Mum who was also suffering and finally passed due to Dementia.
This is why its good to talk people, you are not alone, or as as a family as many more have suffered as a result of this truly horrible disease. Share experiences, as people you know who are going through may never ask xx
Thank you for the advice and support Jerry, it will always be remembered xxx
Some images of my walk and two pictures of my wonderful Mum and Dad, which I think is fitting given my video 💔xx

Today could have been an easy one for me to give excuses as to why I couldn't get up this morning, given my early start. However, my Mum along with every other Dementia sufferer or their family never the get the option to take a day off from the disease.

Ironically this morning I walked past, not intentionally my Mums last care home where she passed last September. She actually only spent 13 days there following discharge from hospital, their care and love shown to Mum was unmeasurable.

Was nice seeing my old school mate (infants/junior/Seniors) Lee A Mchugh, albeit extremely briefly as we were both walking in opposite directions 😀

Some images below from my walk, oh and once again my lovely Mum.

Hope you have a good Friday guys, love you all xxx

Why am I doing this?

Wednesday 1st Oct
Day 1 - Walking 2 Miles a Day for #DementiaUK.

Good Morning Guys, just having my none coffee, coffee, as I get ready, and put my waterproofs on as sounds wonderful out there 😂🦆.

Why am I doing this, Mum was diagnosed with Early onset Dementia in 2016, formally diagnosed with Mixed Dementia in 2017.

So Mum suffered with this disease which eventually took her in September 2024, so for over 7 years.

Its not a disease only the person suffers with the whole family do. This truly is a disease that we all suffer from x

Got my walking record and T-Shirt to inspire me, once again after today I will only share my Donation Page at the end the week, showing my progress.

Love you all xx
