Winter Reading Challenge

I'm doing Winter Reading Challenge for Dementia UK

This winter, I'm reading and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Winter Reading Challenge: Books, Blankets and Questionable Life Choices

Monday 14th Sep
So, apparently I have looked at my already-questionable reading pile and thought, “You know what this needs? A challenge.”

Which brings me to the Dementia UK Winter Reading Challenge.

I’ve decided to take part because reading is something I absolutely love. Give me a blanket, a good book and a Pepsi Max and I’m basically unreachable. Parenting, housework, responsibilities… all temporarily suspended.

The slightly concerning part is that I am now going to be deliberately adding even MORE books to my reading list.

And yes, I am fully aware that I already have a TBR pile that could probably qualify as a small architectural structure.

Luckily, the timing of this challenge could not be better. With two new ACOTAR books on the horizon and the Fourth Wing novella coming too, I suspect finding things to read is not going to be much of a problem. In fact, my biggest challenge may be convincing myself that reading instead of buying more books is the actual objective.

But this challenge is about much more than giving me an excuse to read more books (although I am absolutely going to enjoy that bit).

I’m taking part to raise money for Dementia UK. Dementia can have such a huge impact on not just the person living with it, but everyone around them, and having someone there who understands can make an enormous difference.

This is something that feels particularly important to me because, through the industry I work in, I come into contact with people living with dementia on an almost daily basis. I see first-hand just how devastating dementia can be, not only for the person experiencing it, but for their friends, partners and families too.

It can change relationships, routines, independence and so many of the little things that people often take for granted. And while I can't magically fix any of that with a pile of romance novels, I can pick up a book, enjoy something I love and hopefully raise a little money for an organisation that provides genuinely important support to people navigating something incredibly difficult.

So, over the winter, I’ll be swapping some of my usual scrolling for reading, working my way through books and hopefully raising a bit of money along the way.

There will probably be:

Far too many books.

A blanket permanently attached to me.

At least one book that I claim I’ll “just read one chapter” of before suddenly realising it’s 1am.

And absolutely no guarantee that I won’t buy more books while doing a reading challenge.

If you’d like to support me, I’d be incredibly grateful for any donation, however small. Every penny will help Dementia UK continue supporting people with dementia and the families who are alongside them.

And if nothing else, you can enjoy watching me attempt to convince myself that buying another book is technically part of the challenge.
