Walk for Dementia 2025
Monday 22nd Sep
On 2nd October 2022, I lost my beautiful mother to dementia, a silent and cruel disease that slowly stole her away from me. Watching her go through that journey was the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced. She was full of love, strength, and kindness, and even as the illness changed her, the essence of who she was shone through.
Losing her has left a huge void in my life that will never be filled, but it has also given me a deep determination to make a difference.
That is why I am taking part in the Walk for Dementia 2025. This walk is my way of honouring mum’s memory and standing beside every family who knows the heartbreak of this disease. Each step I take is for her, and for the millions of others who have been, or will be, affected. It’s not just about remembering; it’s about working towards a cure and gaining a deeper understanding.
Dementia is not only a personal tragedy; it is one of the most significant challenges we face as a society. It affects millions of families, leaving loved ones struggling emotionally, financially, and physically. Yet, research into prevention, treatment, and care still requires significantly more support. We cannot let dementia continue to take so much without fighting back.
By walking this year, I hope to raise awareness and funds for vital research, better care, and ultimately, a cure. My mum will always be with me, today, tomorrow and every step of the way, and I carry her love and memory in everything I do. If you are able, please support me by donating, joining me on the walk, or simply sharing the story. Together, we can bring hope to families and work towards a future where dementia no longer steals our loved ones.
