Winter Reading Challenge

I'm doing Winter Reading Challenge for Dementia UK

This winter, I'm reading and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Dragonfly in Amber - Outlander 2 - Review

Wednesday 7th Oct
Well this was a bit of a rollercoaster! Starting in the 1960s we meet Jamie and Claire's daughter who knows nothing of her origins. We then jump straight into 1740s Paris and the intrigues of the French court before back to Scotland and the final, fateful battles of the Jacobite rebellions. And how heartbreaking they were!

It did feel like this book simultaneously dragged in places but also rushed over other parts. I could have spent less time in France, some of the things they got up to in the French court just seemed a bit too much like filler to be honest and the return home to Lallybroch followed by joining the Highland Army felt really rushed.

And, even though it was heartbreaking in so many ways, the ending felt really really rushed. One minute, Jamie and Claire are talking about poisoning Prince Charlie and stopping the slaughter at Culloden and the next Jamie is killing Dougal, running off with Claire to the stones and telling her to name the baby after his father and then boom! We're back in the 1960s. I just feel like it could have slowed down slightly but maybe it will make more sense and pick up with the next book.

Overall though, beautiful and Jamie Fraser is still one of the best fictional men I've read!

I'm off in Paris with my favourite Highlander! Started this one on 19th September and I'm now around 19% of the way in.

I wanted to finish this one by the end of the month but it's not looking likely right now. I'll update with my review when I'm done.

I'm currently on a 70 day reading streak, I've read every day since the 21st July  and I want to get to 100!
