I'm walking 62 Miles in October for Dementia UK

This October, I’m walking 62 miles for Dementia UK, inspired by the residents and families I have the privilege of supporting through my work at Ballagh Care.

As Regional Manager, I see how dementia touches the lives of individuals and those who love them. I also see how much comfort can come from a familiar face, a patient conversation, or someone taking the time to listen.

Our residents are people with rich histories, relationships and wishes that deserve to be understood and respected. Supporting them and their families is a responsibility that means a great deal to me.

That is what makes this challenge personal. Alongside my work, I want to do something more to help families affected by dementia feel supported and less alone.

Throughout October, I’ll be making time to walk, reflect and raise awareness, with our residents, their families and our dedicated care teams in mind.

If you’re able to support my fundraising or simply share a few words of encouragement, I would be truly grateful.

Thank you !

62 Miles, One Cause Close to My Heart 💙

Monday 5th Oct
Some days in care stay with you long after you’ve gone home. A conversation with a resident. A family sharing their worries. A moment of laughter that brightens someone’s afternoon.

As Regional Manager at Ballagh Care, these moments remind me why the work we do matters—and why, this October, I’m walking 62 miles for Dementia UK.

Through my work, I see how dementia can affect everyday life, both for the person living with it and for those who love them. I see families trying to make the right decisions, coping with change and finding new ways to stay connected.

I also see warmth, humour and affection. A favourite song bringing a smile. A familiar face offering reassurance. A quiet moment together that means more than words.

Behind every dementia diagnosis is a person with a lifetime of stories—and so much still to share.

That thought is at the heart of this challenge. Everyone deserves care that respects who they are, and every family deserves to feel supported through the uncertainty.

Finding time to walk 62 miles around work and family life will be a challenge of its own. There will probably be tired evenings and walks in the rain, but I’ll have a good reason to put my shoes on and head out.

I want to raise funds, start conversations and give something back to a cause that is closely connected to my everyday work.

As the miles add up, I’ll share my progress here. Thank you to everyone who encourages me, supports the fundraiser or takes a moment to talk about dementia.

One month. 62 miles. And many people in mind with every step.
