Back in 2019 before Covid hit our Grandad got diagnosed with the early stages of dementia, we noticed him forgetting things and not remembering places he had visited hundreds of times.
His rapid decline over the last 7 years has been hard, not only for our Nan but also the extended family. As a family we are lucky my two Uncles and my Mum have been there to look after him and give him as much support as possible. We haven’t had to use Admiral nurses yet but I’m sure that time will come, other families are not so lucky and what Demtia UK can do for family’s eases the burden some may feel.
It isn’t easy, I’ve seen it first hand how hard dementia can affect a family and the strain it puts on one. With out this charity, the incredible nurses, staff and resources they can provide some families may never recover from losing a loved one to this horrible disease. When the mind gives up before the body it’s difficult to watch. For some very short moments Grandad does come back to us but those moments are becoming few and far between.
Some will be thinking why £2512….well he was born on Christmas Day something he does still remember.
