Winter Reading Challenge

A winter of reading for a cause close to my heart 📚❤️

This winter, I'm taking part in Dementia UK's Winter Reading Challenge, turning my reading time into an opportunity to support a charity that means a great deal to me and my family.

Reading is something I want to make more time for, and I love the idea of giving that time an extra purpose. Rather than simply working my way through books, I can use this challenge to raise awareness, encourage conversations about dementia and hopefully raise some money to help families who need support.

Why Dementia UK?

Dementia is something my family has experienced through my grandparents. Without sharing their personal stories, I know just how valuable the right support can be, not only for the person living with dementia but also for the family around them.

Having access to understanding, guidance and specialist support can make an enormous difference during what can be a confusing and difficult time. It's something I'm incredibly grateful for, and it's why helping other families access that same support feels important to me.

Dementia UK provides specialist dementia nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, who offer practical advice and emotional support to families. Their work helps people navigate the challenges of dementia, feel less alone and find ways to cope.

And this matters to more of us than we might realise. Dementia UK highlights that around one in two people will be affected by dementia during their lifetime, whether through developing the condition themselves or caring for someone who has it.

How your donation can make a difference

Every donation, whatever its size, can help Dementia UK continue supporting families.

❤️ £4 could help cover the telephone costs of one family calling the free Helpline.

❤️ £25 could fund an hour of one-to-one support for a carer from a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse.

❤️ £33 could fund an hour of an Admiral Nurse's work with a family in the community, providing practical advice and emotional support.

❤️ £135 could fund an Admiral Nurse answering calls on the Helpline for an evening, when other sources of support may be closed.

These aren't just numbers. They represent opportunities for someone to get advice when they're struggling, for a carer to feel heard, and for a family to know they're not facing dementia alone.

My aim with this challenge isn't just to read more books over the winter. It's to do something positive with my time, support a cause that has touched my own family and help other people access the care and guidance they deserve.

If you're able to donate, share my fundraising page or follow along with my reading journey, I'd be incredibly grateful. Please don't feel that you have to give a large amount; every contribution and every share helps raise awareness of this important cause.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for helping me support Dementia UK.

Let's turn the page together and help make sure no family has to face dementia alone. ❤️📚
