Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

50 Miles for Dad

Wednesday 31st Dec

My name is Nik, and I’m supporting this dementia charity because I lost my dad to dementia in May 2025.

Dementia is often spoken about in general terms, but for families living with it, the impact is very real and deeply personal. It’s not just about memory loss. It affects communication, independence, relationships, and the everyday moments many of us take for granted.

My job living far away from my dad, meant I didn’t see him as often as I would have liked. That distance brought its own challenges. Changes sometimes felt sudden, and it was hard not being there day to day. Even so, it was clear how much dementia affected his life and the lives of those caring for him, and how important consistent support and understanding are.

Seeing this experience, even from a distance, made me aware of how vital it is for families to have access to clear information, compassionate care, and reassurance that they are not alone.

To support this cause, I’m walking 50 miles in January. I’m doing this to raise awareness of dementia, in memory of my dad, and in support of my family who cared for him. It’s a way for me to recognise both the impact of the condition and the strength of those who support loved ones living with it.

This is why the work of dementia charities matters so much. Through research, education, and support services, they help ensure that people affected by dementia are treated with dignity and respect.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting a cause that means a great deal to me.

Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear very poor quality polyester shirts that don’t fit very well but do now come with redesigned ties (for some bizarre reason/reasons)
