Living With Dementia: The Journey Families Never Expect

Dementia doesn’t just affect one person, it touches entire families in ways that are often invisible to the outside world. When a loved one is diagnosed, life changes overnight. Roles shift, routines disappear, and families begin a journey they never imagined they would be on.

Living with dementia means watching someone you love slowly change. Memories fade, conversations become harder, and familiar faces can sometimes feel unfamiliar. For families, this can be heartbreaking. You grieve the person they were while still caring for the person they are and that is one of the hardest parts.

The emotional impact on families is immense. There is sadness, frustration, guilt, and exhaustion. Many carers give up work, social lives, and even their own health to ensure their loved one is safe and comfortable. The constant worry  “Are they okay?” never truly goes away. Nights can be sleepless, days overwhelming, and support can feel far too limited.

Beyond the emotional toll, dementia also brings financial pressure. Quality care, specialist support, and safe living environments are costly. Families often struggle to access the care their loved ones truly deserve, not because they don’t care but because the resources simply aren’t there.

This is why raising money and awareness for dementia care matters so deeply to me. I once lived a very different lifestyle & I wish to pour so much more good into the world now, I would love to be able to raise funds to help support families and individuals living with dementia, so they can receive the best care possible. Whether that means better access to specialist services, respite for exhausted carers, or safer, more compassionate care environments every bit of support can make a real difference.

No family should feel alone on this journey. With more funding, understanding, and compassion, we can help ensure that people living with dementia are treated with dignity, respect, and kindness and that the families who stand beside them every day get the support they so desperately need.
