I'm walking 62 Miles in October

I’m walking 62 Miles in October and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need. I would be grateful for your support.

An £10 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Dad

Friday 3rd Oct
Dad has had dementia now for around four and a half years, he’s been in a care home for the last three years this October.
His decline was pretty rapid from first signs to when he went into the home. But I will say that over the last year or so the progression has slowed down slightly, I’d say he’s now somewhere between stage 6 and 7.
He has deteriorated enough that he now doesn’t really know who I am anymore, but nonetheless I am occasionally greeted with a smile when I visit him.
I have been called by the names of other family members, some of his old friends from his younger years, and even his own father, my grandfather that I never had the chance to meet as he passed away before I was born.
He lost his mobility pretty quickly once he’d gone into the home, it seemed that very quickly he couldn’t walk properly, he had a couple of falls and then couldn’t take his own weight, which wasn’t very much at this point.
I can’t remember the last time I saw him on his feet, but he now has to be hoisted in and out of bed, he spends all day in his big chair, he eats like a horse (although aided),  but is now still very thin.
So, needless to say really, but I’m doing this for my dad.
I know things are tight for many right now, so please don’t see this and think you have to donate a fiver or a tenner, even if everyone could just put £1 or £2 in, we’d still raise a great deal, better more people donate £1 than just a few donate £5 or £10.
Thank you, much love, Nathe x
