I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK
This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.
Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.
Thank you!

What inspired me
Friday 9th JanI was inspired to take part in the 50-mile walk for Dementia UK to raise awareness about dementia and to support families whose lives are forever changed by this condition. Dementia does not only affect the person diagnosed; families often feel as though they lose their loved one the moment the diagnosis is made.
Working in healthcare, I support people living with dementia every day. Listening to their life stories is deeply touching — learning who they were, what they achieved, and the lives they lived. It is a powerful reminder that dementia can affect anyone, regardless of background, status, or position in society. There is no hierarchy when it comes to this condition.
My motivation is also personal. Back home in Zimbabwe, there is very little understanding of dementia. Sadly, many elderly people living with dementia are misunderstood and sometimes even accused of witchcraft. This stigma causes immense suffering, isolation, and neglect, and it highlights the urgent need for education and awareness.
I also see the impact of dementia through someone close to me. A friend of mine is the main caregiver for her mother who lives with dementia. Watching how overwhelming and emotionally exhausting this role can be has shown me just how vital support services are for carers.
Additionally, my son’s grandmother on his paternal side has been living with dementia for almost 12 years. Because of this, my son never had the opportunity to truly know his grandmother as she once was. This loss, though invisible, is deeply felt.
Taking part in this 50-mile walk is my way of honouring everyone affected by dementia — those living with it, those who care for them, and those who have lost loved ones along the way. I walk to raise awareness, to challenge stigma, and to stand in solidarity with families facing this journey every day.
