Walk 30 Miles in September 2026

Join the Facebook group for Walk 30 miles in September challenge.

I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK

This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

Well, that's all folks!

Thursday 1st Oct
Well, that's all folks! I did it! I completed my 30 miles last week, but decided to go for another jaunt by Willin Lake in Milton Keynes to enjoy what remains of the summer, early autumn days.

My buddy Mr Squirrel and I saw many gorgeous things and had a splendid time traipsing about Forestry England territory, London and the local Parks Trust lakes.

Thanks again to everyone who sponsored me! It means a lot to me and those benefitting from your generosity!

Walks here, there, everywhere!

Sunday 20th Sep
So, some nice walks this week,  inspired by social events, art exhibitions, choir rehearsals and glorious weather!

There's been a great walk via the Thames Embankment to Charing Cross after the Whistler exhibition at Tate Britain and a lovely stroll around Salcey Forest, seeing the Ranger's Oak too, amongst others!

Half way there!

Saturday 5th Sep
Today I reached the 15 miles and had a fabulous walk with my friend Martin and Mr Squirrel in Forestry England's Wendover Woods, in the Chilterns. It was a lovely, sunny day and a fabulous time was had!

Ready, steady....

Friday 28th Aug
Go!

On 1st September I start my challenge for Dementia UK. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far! It's much appreciated 🫶.

I have added a little photo of my great auntie Mien, who had dementia (it runs in the family).

Here you see her on an accordion-guided walk in The Netherlands, where my family is from. It's a well-known fact that music brings back vivid memories for people with dementia, especially if the music is their favourite or memories of their youth.

Testing, testing: Walk tracked

Sunday 23rd Aug
The software seems to be working. A first gentle 5km in the area nicely captured.

Testing, testing!

Sunday 23rd Aug
Right!

The page has been created. Friends and family have been alerted! Kind donations are coming in. Some friends have also agreed to be my walking buddies on one or more walks. Yay! 🎉

Now, for the first blog post, and....testing my software connection and technical abilities! There's so many apps, devices, permissions and data sharing questions to answer!!

But, I think I have succeeded and yesterday's test walk in my local area seems to have gone OK. 🤞

Once it's all up and running I should be able to provide actual evidence that I am walking, the walk, not just talking and writing the talk!🧐

Great way to get me out there, during these summer days to admire local nature 🫶❤️
