Living with Dementia: A Personal Reflection

Sunday 24th Aug

Dementia is such a cruel and frightening condition. Watching my dad’s journey with it has been heartbreaking. He has now lost the ability to walk, and with that, we’ve lost such a large part of who he used to be. His mind is often clouded with confusion, and the words that once flowed so beautifully in his poetry are now out of reach.

His appetite has changed too, and weight loss has followed. And yet, in the midst of all this, there are still moments—precious and fleeting—when his eyes light up with recognition. He still knows us, and sometimes, that familiar sparkle shines through, reminding us of the man we love.

Sadly, our story is not unique. So many families are living through the same painful reality. That’s why raising awareness and funds for dementia research and support is so important. With continued research, there is hope for better treatments, and one day, a cure.

If you’re able, please consider supporting dementia research—together, we can make a difference for those living with this devastating condition and for the families who walk this journey alongside them.
