Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I've walked 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

UPDATE 1st February

Alice and Becca's donation has taken your total  donations to £831.

What a fantastic response - throughout the month your support has been inspiring and your generosity - amazing. Thank you.

You have made a major contribution to the work of Dementia UK helping victims and their loved ones cope with these dreadful diseases. Thank you.

Signing off for now, with lasting thanks to:

Lilia, Emma, Mary, Chris O'D, Maia, Claire O,Jane W, Barry D, Caro, Mike & Sonia, Geirgia & Philip, Chris B, Alan & Steph, Ros H, Alison S, Glynn, Kerrie, Sara, Millie (G, R and B), Beryl, Alex & Molly, Ollie B, Brian & Beverley, Adam, Jack B, Alice & Becca.

Wishing you all a happy and safe 2026.

UPDATE 28th January

Thanks to Alex and Molly, and Beryl your total donations take us over revision 3 target, smashing the original by almost x3. Thank you so much everyone.

Despite me completing the walk and you beating our target please don't feel shy if you want to make a donation, though before the end of January would be fun, just to see how much we have put together for Dementia UK.

Thanks everyone for your indulgence with these messages, and donors - my special thanks.

Warmest good wishes.

UPDATE 24th January

Hey everyone. Millie's donation nudges £700, our latest revised target. The original suggested by Dementia UK was £250 so I want to say again to all my donors, and all other participant walkers' donors "Thank you all for your support. Your donations will translate into help and relief for  dementia victims and their loved ones".

Yesterday's walk took my total to 50.32 miles walked since January 1st so |I shall now enjoy a week end break.

Thanks again everyone.

UPDATE 21st January

Recent donations from Sara, and Beryl took us past our third Goal revision - thank you both for your amazing donations.

A personal note - I had a few comments about my funny hat - the, err, Beanie. So as the weather improved  on Friday, and crucially, the wind dropped, I changed to the trilby. Rainy and cold forecast - hmmm, oh the problems facing winter walkers.

More importantly, with ten days to go I am determined to break through the 50 mile target this week. 2.5 miles today takes total to 44.22 miles.

Thanks everyone.

UPDATE 18th January

Kerrie, and Glynn have added to our pot for Dementia UK. My profound thanks to them and everyone who has previously donated or has plans to make a donation. Thank you.

I am pleased to tell you that my total miles to date are 38.02. On two occasions I broke the 3 miles barrier (note to self - "It's not the four minute mile Mick ) and this brought the average to 2 miles/day.

A week -end off and by 25th I expect to break the 50 miles.

Your encouragement and donations make the hot hips and grumbling gout bearable, thanks again everyone.

Most importantly, your generosity has  meant we have far exceeded the original target of £250.00.  Thank you.

UPDATE 12th January.

Massive thanks to Mike & Sonia, Caroline, Ross, Georgia, Alan & Steph, Alison, and Chris, for you recent generous donations.

Progress is on target, and encouraged further by all of your generous donations I have raised  my target further to £600.00,so do feel free to pass my donation page info to any family or friends who may want to help the Dementia UK aims to ease the burden on victims and their loved ones.

UPDATE 9th January.

Thank you so much for your donations Jane, Emma, Chris, Mary, Lilia, Claire, Maia, and Barry.

I am immensely encouraged by your generosity  and I can report a satisfactory week;

Mileage is on Target, today I walked 3.7 miles taking total to date to 15.1. And you have boosted my confidence to raise the bar on our target to £400.00.

INTRODUCTION 1st January

I am almost 83 years old and one of the lucky ones not suffering dementia.

This January  I'm walking 50 Miles trying to raise funds for  Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference and will help Dementia UK provide specialist practical solutions and emotional support to help families cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Coping with the cold, snow and icy paths I've togged up with layers, boots, and silly hat, and have logged total 7.6 miles so far (Jan 6th).
