The reason why ..

Sunday 26th Apr

I’m walking 31 miles this May for Dementia UK.

But really, I’m walking for my mum. She was diagnosed in July 2024, and by August 2025 she was gone. Dementia took my mum so quickly. One minute we were trying to understand what was happening, and the next we were saying goodbye. There wasn’t time to prepare, to process, or to make sense of it all.

My mum was the kindest person I’ve ever known. Not just in big ways, but in the quiet, everyday ways that made people feel safe and loved. She was patient, gentle, and always put others before herself. Life without her feels painfully different. I miss her in ways that are hard to explain. Its in the small things, the routines, the moments you expect to share and suddenly can’t.

I’m doing this walk not just for her, but to raise awareness of how devastating dementia can be, and how quickly it can change everything. It’s also for the families who are going through this right now. For those who are watching someone they love fade, and those who are grieving the loss that follows.

If sharing this helps even one person feel less alone, then it matters.

Every mile I walk will be for her, for the love she gave, for the person she was, and for how much she is missed every single day.

Miss you Mum 💛
