Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

A wet end to my fundraising challenge

Saturday 31st Jan
Had a lovely walk from home to meet up with my WOW group, we then walked 3 miles, had a book club  meeting then I walked back home. Proud to say I finish with a 72.21 miles tally and as I write have raised £402 for Dementia UK. Lovely weather then got soaked by a downpour on the way home!

27th Jan evening walk

Tuesday 27th Jan
Nice dry 3 mile evening walk with my walking group after a day of relentless rain!

Wandering around Leicester

Friday 23rd Jan
Car being serviced and MOT 'd so having to walk around Leicester until it's ready. Still   I've added 4.5 miles to my walking.

Greg's birthday

Thursday 22nd Jan
Walked into town and back with husband as it's hid birthday and treated him to lunch.  3.17 miles.

Everything helps

Wednesday 21st Jan
2.09 miles walk this morning  as I'm off to Clubbercise tonight.

Knackered but still going!

Tuesday 20th Jan
Massive day out in London yesterday and late home, bed 2am, up 7.30am for a Pilates class, managed a 3.07 mile walk on top, somehow! I'm knackered but proud of myself!

3.1 miles on a muddy walk along fields and a canal towpath with my fabulous walking group led me to achieve 50.1 miles ....met the challenge! So pleased!! ❤️.  I shall carry on walking and raising funds as best as I can until the end of the month.

Dry weather for a change!!

Friday 16th Jan
5.8 miles today with my friend Rosemary. Might have involved a bacon butty stop!

Thursday 15th Jan

3.1 mile wet and muddy walk

Thursday 15th Jan
Lovely morning with my fabulous friend Jem testing a new route for our walking group. The rain was heavy and relentless, the mud was atrocious but we made it through the rain, as the song goes, to the pub where we had a most enjoyable, if soggy, lunch.

Evening walk with my women's walking group

Tuesday 13th Jan
After a pilates class this morning (and clubbercise last night!), I  ventured out on a 3.81 mile walk this evening with my women's walking group. My knee is feeling its age but I feel  better for the exercise.

Unexpected walk

Monday 12th Jan
We were going to visit a relative today but unfortunately he had to go to hospital. Using the time wisely, as he's with someone, we decided on an impromptu walk. 5.3 miles in the bag and a belly full of fruit scone with cream and jam en route!

Saturday 10th Jan

Bit slippery

Saturday 10th Jan
Another almost 4 miles walked,  in some places tottered, as the pavements were dodgy still in this weather.

Icy canal 9th January

Friday 9th Jan

Freeeeezing!!

Friday 9th Jan
Must be mad. Ventured out for a quick circular 2 mile walk around the canal from home. So cold the water had frozen and the poor swans and ducks were waddling on ice. As was I, on the towpath. Didn't think it would be as d-icy, so glad I made it home with no broken bones!

8th January

Thursday 8th Jan

Brrrrrrr!!!

Thursday 8th Jan
Managed just under 2 miles today, it's freezing, miserable and moist outside, I can feel the storm brewing up ready for later on. On a brighter note I want to thank again all those wonderful people who have donated to my Dementia UK walking challenge so far, the target has been exceeded by £48! I'm so grateful and will continue walking to raise more. Let's smash it!!

Another one in!

Wednesday 7th Jan
Lovely 3.5 mile walk into town with my husband on his day off and back home via the canal. At least it wasn't icy today, although it was bitterly cold but thankfully dry. A mid walk bacon butty and a cuppa went down very well indeed!

It's snow joke!

Tuesday 6th Jan
Another 3.08 miles walked today, after a hospital appointment where I had eye drops which stung put into my eyes, I walked with blurry vision to town and back, no mean feat in this weather!

Got my T-shirt!!

Monday 5th Jan

Frosty walk

Sunday 4th Jan
Another frosty walk today. Strava recorded 5.27 miles but my newly activated pedometer recorded 6.83 miles! Very confusing!!

Icy walk

Friday 2nd Jan
5 mile walk with my husband to town and back home via Welland Park and the canal towpath. Annoyingly my Strava app cut-out at 1.88 miles  so I had to rely on my husbands step count on his phone.

First walk of 2026

Thursday 1st Jan
Just got home after a 4.39 mile local walk. Much needed fresh air.

End of year head start

Wednesday 31st Dec
Another 5.5 miles in the last two days to blow away post Christmas cobwebs whilst looking after my flu ridden husband! 2026 here we come, Happy New Year all!!

Started!

Sunday 28th Dec
We were told we could start before January so from 23rd December I have done 2.04 miles, 2.43 miles on 24th December,  7.50 miles on Boxing day and 2.02 miles today, 28th. I'm pretty sure I haven't recorded one but hey ho. All good to walk off the stress and calories of the festive season!
