I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK

This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Every step I take

Saturday 1st Aug

Hi there,

I'm taking part in Walk 30 Miles in September 2026 to raise money for Dementia UK – a cause close to my heart. For several years I have helplessly watched my lovely Dad (my all- time hero) our Ken slip away from us as he faces the challenges of living with dementia. Not a day goes by when I don’t miss his voice, his dry sense of humour, his reassuring presence and his company. At the same time, I have watched my amazing Mum adapt very quickly to a very different life with Dad. She has become the most patient, dedicated, resourceful, patient, hard working, loving carer 24/7 for Dad. They remain forever soulmates, as they navigate a very different life together- a life with dementia.

By supporting my challenge, you can offer a lifeline to more families living with dementia. A donation of just £10 could cover the telephone costs of two people calling Dementia UK’s Helpline for expert, compassionate support from a specialist dementia nurse.

Over the last year, Mum and I have had the unwavering support of our own local dementia ‘angels’ from the Dementia Helpline. I, for one, could not have managed without the kindness, support, advice, empathy and reassurance of my incredible, designated dementia nurse. Mum, Dad and Kirsty- every step I take through the month of September is for the three of you.

Dear Maxine, We still think of you often even though primary school seems a while ago now. My Dad had Parkinson’s related dementia, so I know how hard it can be. Good luck with the walk. Sending our love xx
