I'm walking 62 Miles in October

I’m walking 62 Miles in October and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need. I would be grateful for your support.

An £10 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

3 days to go!!!

Tuesday 28th Oct
I promise after this post I will stop badgering you all for sponsorships...but I have just 3 days left in my '62 miles in 31 days challenge' for Dementia UK. So far I've raised an incredible £1,896 which is still clinging on at #5 on Dementia UK's leaderboard.

I have to say I've really enjoyed this challenge and am certainly feeling the benefits. After 28 consecutive days I have power walked between 3 and 4 miles every day, which totals 90.10 miles after this morning's session. I am determined to hit 100 miles by Friday!! My pace has increased from 15:33 minutes per mile to a personal best of 14:12, and I feel stronger and fitter than ever before. I have already decided to continue this as a daily routine once the official challenge is over.

If any of you would like to top up my total and edge us ever closer to the £2,000 mark I would be eternally grateful.

Many thanks for all your support throughout the month.

Day 15 update

Wednesday 15th Oct
Day 15 Update!

So i'm now half way through the '62 miles in 31 days' challenge and have stormed to 48.77 miles. No days have been missed and i've completed a mininum of 3 miles every day. As i am power walking this my legs do feel a litte fatigued, and after a personal best of 14:17 per mile on the 10th October I've slipped back a little to 14:50 today. But the main thing is i'm pushing myself as hard as i can and keeping to the daily schedule.

Sponsorships have been absolutely amazing. We are now at £1,751 (still the 5th highest in the country!) and for TODAY ONLY one of Dementia UK's donors is MATCHING ANY DONATION MADE. So if you donate £5, i raise £10! If any of you out there are still thinking of sponsoring me then today is the day to do it. Thank you so much to everyone who already has! 😁🫶

On to week 3...

Matt X

The first 7 days

Tuesday 7th Oct
So i am now 7 days into the challenge for Dementia UK and have managed to complete 23.87 miles...comfortably exceeding what is required to hit 62 miles for the month. At this stage i'm thinking about trying to hit 100 miles, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I had a few problems with blisters midway through the week, but this was a footwear issue, so a change of trainer and a few blister plasters and i'm fine now.

Most importantly, i'm totally blown away with the response to my fundraiser. I have raised my target 3 times - from an initial £750 to £1,000, then £1,250 to £1,500. In fact, my total of £1,528 is the 5th highest in the entire country. I won't be raising the target again, but will happily accept further donations should anyone still wish to support me and this great cause.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your support. Let's hope i can stay injury free and smash week two as I have week one!

In memory of Beryl

Monday 29th Sep
Some of you may remember that we lost Suzanne's Mum to dementia two years ago next month. As a family it has been a tough period coming to terms with the loss of Beryl, but we both try and support Dementia UK as best we can in her memory.
For the month of October 2025, Dementia UK are running a '62 miles in 31 days challenge' which i have decided to complete. Now I usually run 5K three times a week anyway so it should be a pretty straight forward task, but I can assure you that in addition to my normal fitness routine I will be taking to the streets of Croydon and/or Sheffield come rain or shine each day to walk a minimum of 2 additional miles. You will be able to track my progress as I go.
If you could spare a few quid to help me raise funds for this fantastic charity I would be eternally grateful.
Many thanks in advance,
Matt X
