I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK
This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.
Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.
Thank you!

Walking around the UK’s largest temple, and flying high with the Swans!
Sunday 1st FebI concluded my Dementia UK challenge with another active week clocking up 24 miles in the past seven days. In addition to my early morning training runs in Gloucestershire for a half marathon in March I had a very active day yesterday in North London and Hertfordshire.
I met up with my old friend Richard to visit the UK’s largest Hindu temple. Made predominantly from marble, carved in India and constructed in the UK it took ten years to build, opening in 1995. It’s peaceful and tranquil place in a busy area of North London. I would recommend a visit.
After the temple it was a change of tempo as we watched Watford v Swansea City at Vicarage Road. The Swans were outstanding in the second to win 2 - 0, and claim a valuable three points in the championship.
During the month of January I walked or ran over 150 miles, more than three times my target! I have raised some much needed funds for Dementia UK. Many thanks to those of you who have donated to Dementia UK to date, it’s much appreciated. If you haven’t sponsored me yet, there’s still time, just click on the link below,

Ploughing on through the wind and rain
Sunday 25th JanIt’s been a wet and windy week in Gloucestershire but it hasn’t stopped me covering another 34 miles, taking my total for January to date to 127 miles (204km). One walk that stands out is an uphill hike to Forest Green in the dark and driving rain. I was rewarded with Forest Green Rovers putting in a fairly abject performance against lowly Altrincham, ending in 1-1 draw. You can’t win them all! The bulk of the week’s distance was achieved by continuing to train for a half marathon in the spring. It’s hard work at times, I’m trying to convince myself it doing me some good!
Many thanks to those of you who have donated to Dementia UK to date, it’s much appreciated. If you haven’t sponsored me yet but would like to there’s a link below.
A donation of £10 could help two families affected by dementia get free support through its free Helpline. It would mean so much if you could support me with a donation:

Walking where the money is made!
Sunday 18th Jan
It’s been a busy week for my Dementia UK challenge. As my training for a planned half marathon in March kicks in I clocked up a healthy 38 miles over the past seven days. I have now covered 93 miles since the start of January. My most interesting walk this week was a walking tour of The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, South Wales, where all the UK’s coinage is made. I would recommend a visit, you even get a press your own £1.00 coin!
The fundraising is going well, I have met my initial target of £250.00 but I’m sure I can raise some more. Many thanks to those of you who have donated to Dementia UK to date, it’s much appreciated. If you haven’t sponsored me yet but would like to there’s a link below.

From running in the snow to sight seeing in Central London
Sunday 11th Jan
I’ve had another active week clocking up 29 miles in the past seven days. A few very chilly early morning runs, including one on Tuesday when it started snowing heavily half way through my run! Yesterday, Saturday 10th, I walked 5 miles in Central London, taking in the sights with Ian, an old friend from my time in Namibia. It was an another cold day, but fortunately we finished up in a cosy pub for a couple of well earned pints of beer!
In total I have now accumulated 55 miles, surpassing the challenge total of 50 miles for the month of January. I will keep going though, I’m convinced this is doing me some good!
So far I have reached 90% of my fundraising target (£226.00 out of £250.00). Many thanks to those of you who have donated to Dementia UK to date, it’s much appreciated. If you haven’t sponsored me yet but would like to there’s a link below. You will be supporting a great cause. Having met my ‘Walk 50 miles in January’ target, it would be great if you could help me meet my fundraising target.

Off to an energetic start!
Sunday 4th Jan
My challenge has got off to an energetic start as I have managed to clock up 25 miles over the past four days. The highlight so far was an 8 mile walk with my family on Saturday. On a bright, crisp, cold day, with blue skies and snow and frozen on the ground we began walking the Gloucestershire Way, starting at Chepstow Castle on the Welsh / English border and walking as far as Clanna in the Forest of Dean.
This morning, Sunday, I got myself out of bed for a long 11 mile run (that’s long for me!😀). In freezing conditions I ran from Stonehouse to Stroud following the Stroudwater canal, then back to Stonehouse.
A good start, I’ll do well to keep this up! Many thanks to those of you who have sponsored me to date. In Dementia UK you are supporting a great organisation which is providing help and support to people in our society who need it most.
