I'm jogging one mile a day for Dementia UK

This April, I'm jogging one mile each day and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. Just £8 can cover the telephone costs for two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Updates

Last few days!

Thursday 24th Apr
It’s been a journey !! Yes it’s been wonderful to build such a big pot for Dementia UK. However it doesn’t touch the sides of the Dementia pot it’s such a big issue now so keep thinking of these guys we will all gain from there support at some time in our lives as carers or cared for…

Walking and Caring

Tuesday 22nd Apr
Back  caring for some of my old clients.  Went for a walk pushing a lady in a wheelchair enjoying the sun the outdoors , the colors  and the animals so I’m claiming my 4 mile walk today !!

Didn’t post

Wednesday 16th Apr
Lost my job yesterday so didn’t feel like posting so I didn’t. Remember life is a lemon and sometimes you haven’t got the energy to do something and that be standing up to dementia! So don’t stand up, sit down and self care when you need to !!

Because I felt like

Monday 14th Apr
Felt good today so U kept running !! Not that far though till knee said enough

Car not working !!

Friday 11th Apr
Burst a tyre last night so walked to the train station this morning. A walk of  4 miles so I’m taking that as my activity today !!

And we go again

Wednesday 9th Apr
No stops
Not as out of breath
Back didn’t hurt
Knee certainly did
A third of the way !! Sort of !!

Two things at once !

Tuesday 8th Apr
Delivered care at home leaflets whilst doing my mile !  Man can do two things at once !

On my own again

Monday 7th Apr
No family with me tonight but felt ok so ran slow but ran two miles just coz I did ! Dementia is like that it does coz it does !

Thankyou so much everyone for getting me so close to £700!
And Tomorrow it starts!!!!

Mothers Day

Sunday 30th Mar
It’s the day of Mums and let’s have a shout out to all the mums that care and the mums that are cared for … give them the day off !!

First time going out 2 days on the trot!

Saturday 29th Mar
Back twinging
Knee hurting
Speed walked most of todays mile but whatever it takes to do the challenge ! Bit like facing dementia is tougher some days !!

Dementia doesn’t take a day off!

Friday 28th Mar
I didn’t post yesterday I took a day off !
Dementia doesn’t !!
If you’re reading this and haven’t donate please do !! Keep going your donations make a difference  they truly do !!

Go Again

Tuesday 25th Mar
So  we have gone through the £500 barrier so in true Dementia style I go again. Sometimes you feel you are being understood and remembered, only for you to be reminded the next day that you aren't and dementia never stops.. So keep giving PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Younger age Dementia

Monday 24th Mar
Did you know.. Nearly 10% of Dementia sufferers are under 65 ?
It not only an old age illness...

First Run

Sunday 23rd Mar
First warm up run done to see how it felt and it felt hard !! Took my medic with me to show dementia takes a family effort!!

Piece by Piece

Saturday 22nd Mar
I hear I’m losing them piece by piece said a lot
As a child of a dementia sufferer I’m not thinking like that as I think my dad gave me pieces of himself years ago and they are now in me.. And I see pieces of him in my kids too. He hasn’t gone anywhere he’s here to stay

WoW!!!

Friday 21st Mar
Thank you Thank you Thank you to all of you for your donations !!! Hardly at the radio one level but it’s all helping to make people’s dementia journey easier actually looking forward to starting now !! Xxx

Missed a Day

Thursday 20th Mar
I was going to blog everyday as part of this journey but didn’t get to do one yesterday but that’s OK! No one stays on top every day and that’s OK!

Day at work !

Tuesday 18th Mar
A thought from my day at work
I do wish the links between social care and health care were more fluid along with the links between the private and funded care. We are here to care and to help it’s not a competition !!

Having a Hard Time

Monday 17th Mar
When having a rough day with caring for your loved ones try and think like this
They aren’t giving you a hard time they are having a hard time..: when that fails I find a gin works wonders!!

Donations

Sunday 16th Mar
Getting donations already and got my first one from someone I don’t know.: that means the world to me as it proves we are all in this together as sufferers (I hate that word !!)  carers and families. Made me think about all the groups that are out there supporting cared for and carers. Two of my favorites are the music groups and men in sheds. Have a look at them !!

A Quote Today

Friday 14th Mar
They may forget what you said
But they will never forget how you made them feel .

Attendance Allowance

Wednesday 12th Mar
Did you know it’s a myth that Attendance Allowance is means tested. So encourage your carer parent to get it , use it for their ME time . Recharging emotional batteries is so important in this journey!

Thoughts on dementia

Tuesday 11th Mar
Whilst I do this challenge I plan to post my daily thought on dementia. Some days I think why  us? Why my dad ? But then I think why not ? Many families have it tough so I’m not doing too bad all things considered. Park the bad moments and enjoy the good ones
Message me if you want my ideas on anything dementia wise or if you want me to shut up !!  See you in April
