My Reason

Friday 1st May Raising money for dementia chariyies has a place close to my heart as my mum was diagnosed with dementia just 3 years ago. We noticed a difference in Mum around 2019, and once covid lockdowns hit she declined quite rapidly. Since then it's been a fight to get her diagnosed and have her needs met. As a family we have done all we can to keep Mum at home as she wanted, but last year after an infection landed her in hospital for 12 weeks, we didn't think she would make it through, after that knew that was the time to move her into nursing care. Mum is settled now in her new home and that has given us time to reflect on what we have experienced over the past 6 years and how important it is that charities such as this are accessible to families that need them. The impacts of dementia ripple through families and watching your loved one change before your eyes is heartbreaking. Any family or person dealing with dementia should know they are not alone, there is so much support available and more people are effected by this awful disease than we think. It's been over 4 years since I've heard my mum say my name, but that just makes me appreciate all the small things in life a lot more.  Share
