Winter Reading Challenge

I'm doing Winter Reading Challenge for Dementia UK

This winter, I'm reading and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

I Deliver Parcels in Beijing by Hu Anyan

Friday 25th Sep
I found this book hard to to enjoy. The subject matter is interesting, and it does make you realise just how tough the gig economy in China is. But, I found the dry, slightly flat, writing style challenging.  Perhaps I would have done better to have thought of it as a text book rather than a memoir!

a book about trains

Monday 21st Sep
I really enjoyed "Moonlight Express" by Monisha Rajesh.  I've always loved train travel, and have been on a couple of sleeper trains (on purpose) but didn't enjoy them as much as Monisha clearly does. I love watching from the window, which you can't do so much on a night train. For Monisha it's all about the human connections made, and she describes her fellow passengers with empathy, humour, and skill. Great book!
I'm moving on to book 3: "I Deliver Parcels in Beijing" by Hu Anyan

book 2

Saturday 12th Sep
I finished "The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks" last night.  It was quite entertaining, but not my cup of tea in the end. I was beguiled by the premis: a woman named Maggie running a bookshop, but it didn't quite grab me.
This morning I have started "Moonlight Express" by Monisha Rajesh.

Reading is my superpower

Thursday 10th Sep
I'm not athletic in any way, but I read every day.  I'm starting my Winter Reading Challenge with "The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks" by Shauna Robinson".
Dementia has affected/is affecting my family, and it's a cause close to my heart.
