Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

A personal challenge supporting my friends

Thursday 18th Dec

My 50-Mile January Challenge for Dementia

From the 1st of January, I’ll be setting myself a personal challenge: walking 50 miles during January to raise money and awareness for dementia.

After recently turning 70, this feels especially meaningful to me. I have close friends who are currently supporting their partners through dementia, and unless you’ve witnessed it first-hand, it’s hard to understand just how cruel this journey is. Dementia doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed — it slowly takes them away, day by day, and those who love them are left grieving someone who is still physically there.

This challenge is my way of doing something. Something to raise funds, something to raise awareness, and something to show support for the many families quietly coping with this reality.

It’s also a personal commitment to myself — to keep moving, to protect my physical and mental health, and to prove that age doesn’t have to be a barrier to setting goals and pushing gently beyond our comfort zones.

Every step I take in January will be with those families in mind.

If you’d like to support the cause, share the message, or even walk a few miles alongside me in spirit, I would be incredibly grateful.

Thank you for your support
