I'm walking 30 miles in September

I’m walking 30 Miles in September and raising funds for families affected by dementia.

As you know we are dealing with this awful disease through my lovely dad.

I would be grateful for your support.

An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

Hard to deal with …

Saturday 13th Sep
Well yesterday was a tough day as we placed Dad in his second respite care home to see how it goes with a view to a permanent option.

It is a lovely place but always tough to watch your dad moving into a new chapter in his life to ensure he is safe, secure, happy and socialising to ensure the dementia is slowed.

Yesterday I went to a Coldplay concert in the evening and added 3.4 to my current total which is now 17.8 - loved it because I know my Dad would be happy knowing I too enjoy listening to music which is favourite past time currently

A new week a new challenge

Monday 8th Sep
My lovely Dad who has dementia joined me for one of the mikes.  He loved it and enjoyed the sunshine.

This week I hope to do quite a big part of the 30 miles - today completed 2.5 miles round my village.

There are so many reasons why watching a loved one with dementia struggle with what came naturally before and now seems alien to them.  Slowly slowly it’s taking who they are and changing them.

Heading towards the goal

Thursday 4th Sep
Well today I completed 1.5 miles on the gym running  machine but walked! I’m proud of myself as I knew despite the rain showers I had to complete today’s target.
Yesterday was a busy day for dad. David and I took him to his end of summer party peer on peer coffee hour. He thoroughly enjoyed the chat and laughter. In the afternoon we had the pre assessment for his respite week at a residential home  - more to see if likes it in comparison to the other one he tried. The lady was so lovely and encouraging.
This is probably one of the toughest decisions to make in one’s life “when is the right time to place a loved one into residential care?”
The new residential homes are amazing and nothing like the dingy dark places of the past which makes it a little easier.
Watch out for my next update and thank you to those who have already donated.

Just the beginning

Tuesday 2nd Sep
Yesterday I began my 30 miles in September to give me sense of purpose, strength and hope that the future will be a brighter one.

My lovely 91 year old is in the middle of his Alzheimer journey and it is already proving to be tough.

Dad always loves going for a walk when he can so I thought this would be an apt way to help in some small way.

As of today I have completed I have nearly 4.5 miles!
