Walk 30 Miles in September 2026

I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK

This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

A mile a day

Thursday 20th Aug
I don’t usually do things like this, and I certainly don’t usually walk 30 miles unnecessarily! 😂

But this one is for my Grandma. ❤️

My Grandma was someone I adored. She was a nurse before she retired and spent her life caring for and helping so many people. She also looked after me and my brother, was always there for us, and somehow always had lunch ready — even when I hadn’t been invited and had just turned up unexpectedly! (Which I did quite often.)

Sadly, the thing that stole so much from her was dementia.

Even towards the end, she knew. She knew what was happening and fought it right to the end. There were times when we had to agree with her that there were giraffes in the garden, simply because arguing or trying to convince her otherwise would cause her so much distress. But in those precious lucid moments, she knew. And she hated what dementia was doing to her.

That’s something I’ll never forget.

I really believe we need to understand dementia better — especially those periods of lucidity, and whether earlier investigation and brain scans could help families who have a history of dementia. There has to be more we can do.

So, in September, I’m walking 30 miles for Dementia UK, in memory of my Grandma and for everyone living with dementia, their families and the people caring for them.

I’m not expecting to suddenly become someone who enjoys unnecessary walking 😂, but if 30 miles can help raise awareness, support families and contribute in some small way towards finding better answers — then I’ll happily do it.

There must be a future where dementia doesn’t have to end this way.

If you’d like to support me, I’d be incredibly grateful. ❤️

For Grandma. Always. 🩷
