I'm walking 31 Miles in May for Dementia UK

This May, I'm walking 31 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Walking 31 Miles This May — In Memory of My Mum

This May, I’m setting myself a challenge: to walk 31 miles over the course of the month in support of Dementia awareness and research. But this isn’t just about miles on a map or steps on a tracker — it’s something deeply personal.

I’m doing this in memory of my mum.

Dementia is a cruel and complex condition. It doesn’t just affect memory — it gradually takes away independence, personality, and the small everyday moments that make someone who they are. Watching someone you love go through that is incredibly difficult. You find yourself holding onto fragments — a smile, a familiar phrase, a moment of recognition — and learning to cherish them in a different way.

My mum was so much more than her illness. She was warmth, strength, humour, and love. She was the person who shaped who I am today. And even though dementia changed so much, it never changed what she meant to me.

This walk is my way of remembering her.

Each mile I walk throughout May represents not just a step forward, but a moment to reflect — on memories we shared, on the impact she had on my life, and on the importance of supporting others who are going through similar journeys.

I’m also doing this to raise awareness. Dementia affects millions of people and families, yet it can still feel isolating when you’re living through it. The more we talk about it, the more we support research, and the more we stand together, the better chance we have of making a difference.

If you’re reading this, I’d love your support — whether that’s through a donation, sharing this post, or even joining me for a walk. Every bit of encouragement means more than you might realise.

Most of all, this is for you, Mum.

Every step I take this May is in your memory. ❤️
