I'm walking 31 Miles in May for Dementia UK

This May, I'm walking 31 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

End of challenge walk 31 miles in May

Sunday 31st May
I've reached the end of the challenge & have walked 92.5 miles. I reached my goal of walking 83 miles, which was dad's age when Dementia finally took him from us. The times he recognised me over the last few months of his life were few, but precious. I had wanted to achieve 102 miles, which was Grandad Ben's age when he died, my dad's dad, Dementia was a factor on his death certificate. I have though probably walked that extent this month, as some short walks I didn't record, nor my usual activity. My dad's sister has also a similar diagnosis, so I've raised a glass to you all & give you my love 🥰

Thursday 28th May
Thankfully it's alot cooler tonight, so lassie & I have done a 2.5 mile across the fields from the cottage to Moel y Ci farm, past part of Snowdonia Donkey Sanctuary & home, a nice circular walk, which we do fairly regularly.

27th May

Thursday 28th May
A 1.5 mile walk from the cottage with Lassie, the heat getting to us both, but thankfully we got back just before the absolutely amazing thunder & lightening storm & downpour of rain.

26th May

Tuesday 26th May
Only a mile walk today from the cottage with Lassie, the heat really got to her last night even though we went later in the evening, so I was cautious with her today & me.

25th May

Tuesday 26th May
Two x 1 mile walks with Lassie from the cottage as the heat getting to us both!

24th May

Sunday 24th May
2.5 miles round trip from cottage with Lassie, across the field to Moel y Ci farm, past part of Snowfonia Donkeys, then back. Went early evening to avoid the hottest part of the day & this walk is through some woods, so some shade.

Sunday 24th May
Two 1 mile walks today, one in Bangor & a local walk from the cottage with Lassie.

22nd May

Sunday 24th May
Did lots of tidying up & cutting back today in the garden, so only did a mile local walk from the cottage with Lassie.

21st May

Thursday 21st May
Volunteering at Penrhyn Castle today, decorating the giant wreath with foliage & the knitted/ crocheted bugs & flowers from the craft group. Really enjoyed it, then walked back to the Ford & then picked up the Lon Las Ogwen footpath & across from Moel y Ci Farm. 5 miles in total, Iwan & Lassie came to meet me again.

20th May

Thursday 21st May
Travelled back from the Lake District today, so only did a mile walk with Lassie across the fields as not much energy after the drive, unpacking & getting straight.

19th May

Tuesday 19th May
I did a circular walk today from Levens Hall, through their deer park, over & under the M6, back along some country lanes & then back through the deer park. Lovely walk just over 3 miles.

18th May

Monday 18th May
Walked 3 miles from the Windermere campsite exploring the various local footpaths through the woods.

17th May

Sunday 17th May
Visited Holehird Gardens near Windermere, I did a 2 mile walk around the gardens & surrounding countryside, very relaxing. The garden is amazing.

16th May

Saturday 16th May
Walked 4 miles today. I went to Fell foot parkland & walked the meadow walk, to the boathouse & then back on the meadow walk reversing the route. Then onto Holker Hall garden, which was stunning.

15th May

Friday 15th May
Travelled to Windermere today, stopped at RHS Bridgewater on the way, spent a few hours walking around the gardens & grounds, so have estimated 2 miles.

14th May

Thursday 14th May
Shorter circular walk today of about 2.5 miles, from the cottage with Lassie, across the fields to Moel Y Ci farm, past Snowdonia donkey sanctuary & back.

13th May

Wednesday 13th May
My best walking mileage in a day since the start of the challenge. I walked to Penrhyn Castle this morning as volunteering there, I went the right way this time, so the walk was just over 5 miles. My husband then took me to my volunteering session with the National slate museum in Llandygai & I walked home from there, which is 4 miles, so I've walked just over 9 miles today, am mega chuffed. 😁

12th May

Tuesday 12th May
I volunteered at Penrhyn Castle this morning & walked back to the cottage, on a different footpath that I hadn't been on before, joining up with Lon Las Ogwen footpath. I got lost so did a longer route, which according to my route planner app was 6 miles. I'm really pleased with that walk & hope to do it again when I'm volunteering there, I know where I went wrong on the footpath for another time.

11th May

Tuesday 12th May
Two x one mile walks with Lassie today to the field with the horse in & back. The weekend away has caught up with me re energy!

10th May

Sunday 10th May
I was travelling back from a few days in Herefordshire today, so by the time I got back & unpacked I didn't have alot of time. I have only done the mile walk today with Lassie to the field with the horse in & back, planning to exceed that tomorrow. 😁

9th May

Saturday 9th May
Another day at the RHS Malvern spring show, was fab. I didn't do as much walking today as yesterday, so am estimating 2 miles over the day, visiting various parts of the showground & revisiting bits trying to find a particular stall, there's alot there & it's like a maze.

8th May

Friday 8th May
Today I did my walking around the three counties showground taking in the RHS malvern spring show. I'm guessing, as there all day, that I did about 3 miles going to all parts of the showground.

7th May

Thursday 7th May
I have travelled to a campsite just outside Hereford today, so I stopped at Chirk Castle on the way. I walked the woodland walk while there, 2.5 miles, lots of bluebells, was lovely.

6th May

Wednesday 6th May
Walked approproximately 4 miles today. I was volunteering at the National slate museum currently based at Llandygai industrial estate, while the museum is being updated, so I walked from home across to Moel Y Ci farm & from there joined the Lon Las Ogwen footpath, which takes me to the bottom of the industrial estate. Very enjoyable, a walk I've never done. Am really enjoying exploring & discovering all these walks I can do from my front door.

5th May

Tuesday 5th May
Walked 3 miles today with Lassie from front door on part of the North Wales Pilgrim's Way, exploring footpaths I haven't been on for many years.

4th May

Monday 4th May
Iwan joined Lassie & I on our main walk of the day. We did a circular route across to Moel Y Ci farm & back, very enjoyable about 2.5 miles.

3rd May

Sunday 3rd May
Walked approximately 6 miles today, around the vintage transport show at Bodafon fields, Llandudno, then up Mostyn Street & back along the promenade to Bodafon fields.

2nd May

Saturday 2nd May
Circular walk again from home, going up Lon Lannerch, up towards Moel y Ci, going on the footpath at the base across to Moel y Ci farm, with Lassie, approximately 4 miles.

First walk 1st May

Friday 1st May
Lovely circular walk with Lassie across the fields from home to Moel y Ci farm & back approximately 2.5 miles. I'm not including short walks in my daily amount, just walks of over 1 mile 😁
