🌍 Walking 30 Miles for Dementia UK – Because Dementia Doesn’t Discriminate

Dementia is a worldwide disease. It doesn’t care about age, background, or where you come from — it affects millions of people and their families every single day.

For me, this cause is deeply personal. My Dad is living with dementia and currently in supported care back home in Australia.  Having reached the age of 80 without any major health issues, his fear of needing a care home was soon realised as he started to suffer and need support full time. I’ve seen first-hand the impact this illness has — not just on my Dad being diagnosed, but through volunteering in my local community.

That’s why I’m taking on the Dementia UK 30 Mile Walk Challenge — to help raise vital funds so others like my Dad can access the support, advice, and compassion they desperately need.

💙 Every mile I walk will be for my Dad and for everyone navigating this journey.
💙 Every pound donated will help Dementia UK provide specialist dementia nurses and resources to those who need them most.

If you’re able to support me — whether by donating, sharing this post, or sending words of encouragement — it would mean the world.

Thank you for your support & donations

Tuesday 7th Oct
Thank you all for your incredible donations and support for this fundraiser — your generosity and kindness mean the world! 🫶🏻 I flew back in from Oz yesterday after spending some precious time with my Dad and squeezing in a few mental health walks — smashing out 75 miles in the process! It’s tough witnessing my Dad’s dementia progress, but I’m deeply grateful for those caring for him every day. It gives me comfort knowing he’s safe and in good hands. 🙌

Come rain or shine

Wednesday 10th Sep
Getting some miles in today, no excuses despite the weather! Have booked a flight to Oz for Friday night so a 33 hour commute until I see Dad. Feeling anxious about seeing him in his care home for the first time but he’s safe & looked after so I’m thankful for that 🙌 Looking forward to spending quality time with him with good chat & laughs 🥰

Overwhelmed to be at 50%!

Friday 15th Aug
Less than 24 hours since signing up and I’m halfway to the goal!

Feeling rich in donations and messages of support.

Whilst it works out to be  1 mile a day in September, stay tuned as I’m trying to map some country walks with pub stops (something my Dad would love) so I’ll share those details in future if anyone wants to join in!
