Walk 31 Miles in May 2026

I'm walking 31 Miles in May for Dementia UK

This May, I will be walking 31 miles to raise vital funds for Dementia UK, helping to ensure that no family has to face dementia alone. I am taking on this challenge in support of the specialist dementia nurses who provide life‑changing guidance and care to families when they need it most. Your support, no matter how big or small, will help make a real difference.

Mum passed away on 10 May 2026, bringing this incredibly close to our family’s hearts. My sister and I were with her, surrounded by three generations of family, as she peacefully went to sleep.

Mum was always the strength and heart of our family. She trained as a nurse and went on to work at Northampton General Hospital. Following this, she achieved something she was incredibly proud of — setting up and running a nursing home alongside three close nursing friends, continuing to care for others with the same compassion and dedication that defined her career.  Outside of work, she was a passionate rugby fan and a supporter of the Northampton Saints. She held a season ticket and, when her shifts allowed, would spend her time off cheering them on from the stands.

Mum was diagnosed with dementia in 2019, and while we gradually adapted to the changes over the years, the last six months were especially challenging as her condition has progressed more quickly. Even so, these were still moments of connection and familiarity that we will treasure deeply. She recognised us, and those moments — the smiles, the shared memories, the sense of togetherness — will remind us how important understanding and support were on this journey. Watching her face daily challenges, from walking to finding the right words, was not easy. But we could see her resilience and her love for us continued to shine through. As a family, we learned, adjusted, and received the right support. No one has to go through this alone.

By raising funds for Dementia UK, I hope to help other families receive the expert support, reassurance, and understanding that make such a difference during the hardest moments. Thank you for reading and for supporting this cause so close to my heart.

Thank you

My Updates

Day 14

Thursday 14th May
Fundraising target exceeded, and the number of miles exceeded.
Mum is watching over me
xx

Day 11

Tuesday 12th May
Today was always going to be difficult, marking the fourth anniversary of my brother’s passing. It was made even harder by the loss of my mum. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, with my sister and me by her side. Mum was surrounded by three generations of family — my sister‑in‑law Deb, her grandchildren Luke and Kate, and her four great‑grandchildren.

While we are heartbroken, we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Simon and Dad, as well as her brothers and parents. She has so much catching up to do.

Fly high, Mum. You will always be loved and never forgotten.

Day 8

Friday 8th May
Exceeded my target and only 9.36 miles left

Day 7

Thursday 7th May
Wow, thank you for the donations so far. I am not far off my target.
Big thank you to everyone who has donated and supported me with kind words.
It all helps

Day 2 to 4

Tuesday 5th May
Day 2 was very hard, seeing mum on Saturday was heartbreaking, but Day 4 was my and Simon's Anniversary, and we went to see her together, and it was a great visit.  Mum was being cheeky and a little flirty and winking. Over these 3 days, I did 9.29 miles.
So my total is now 10.79 miles, so fingers crossed I will exceed 31 miles in May

Day 1

Friday 1st May
Walked at Pitsford/Brixworth Reservoir, so lucky to have this on my doorstep.
Day 1 ✅
