I'm attempting to jog one mile a day for Dementia UK

I accidentally signed up for this challenge, literally - I AM NOT A RUNNER. A mile might seem like nothing to some people but some of us vertically challenged and slightly plump individuals find running incredibly difficult. I created an account for this and then I chickened out, but then I received a challenge pack in the mail and realised I was being peer pressured by this charity! Can't exactly back out now! So please support me in my efforts (and through my sweat and tears as I'm going to be in pain :) ) and any little donation would be so greatly appreciated.

I have first-hand personal experience of Dementia and coping with it as a family member. I was the primary carer for both my grandparents who were diagnosed with different types of Dementia. I appreciate the absolute turmoil that comes with Dementia and the lack of support available for families. Both my grandparents moved into a care home last year so part of this challenge is also about me finding myself again whilst doing something to help others.

This April, I'm jogging one mile each day and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. Just £8 can cover the telephone costs for two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Day 1 and 2 Complete ✅

It's great that the sun is finally making an appearance but I overheat at the best of times haha.
Thank you again to everyone who has sponsored me so far. I think the first week is going to be tough. I've only completed two runs and I am in pain but hopefully by next week my body will have gotten over the shock and start to adapt. 🥲

One Day to Go…

Monday 31st Mar

I don’t know why I feel so nervous about this challenge! The thought of running EVERY single day is getting to me, and I’m also feeling the pressure as I’m totally overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. Genuinely. I really HAVE to do this now!

One of the reasons I considered NOT signing up for this challenge was because I thought it wasn’t difficult enough to warrant people donating, and I’d never meet my target. I also appreciate the struggle today with the cost of living, and the constant ask from so many causes so I can’t believe the challenge hasn’t even started yet and I’m almost there.

Thank you so much to each and every one of you for donating. It means the world to me for more reasons than you know. It isn’t just about supporting the cause, you are directly supporting me, and I really hope by doing this challenge, I’ll start believing in myself again. So yes, your donation is vital to such an important and prevalent cause, but your donation is also helping to build someone up again who has been broken for so long and I can’t thank you enough for that.

SO…my Fitbit is charged, I’m stocked up on Epsom salts and the sun has decided to reappear this week. I’m good to go.

PS. If you want to follow my progress on this challenge, I'll be posting on my Instagram page and on Strava. Just search my names on those apps.
