Walk 50 Miles in January 2026

I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Saturday 31st Jan

31st January: final walk!

Saturday 31st Jan
Beautiful walk in Kent today, from Broadstairs to Margate, around 8 miles, with friends Stefanie, Martin and their son Florin. Lovely way to round off my January walking. I've done around 70 miles in total. Thank you to everyone who donated!

28th January: Walk back from work

Wednesday 28th Jan

25th January: walk to Hove

Sunday 25th Jan
Walked along the seafront to Rockwater and back with my women's walking group. Cold wind and a bit of rain but always good to walk and talk. Another 7.04 miles which takes my mileage up to around 59 miles.

24th January: Hove Park

Saturday 24th Jan
Enjoyed walking the Park Run in Hove Park with my Aunty Glynis today! Then walked over to a friend's for coffee and later walked down into town and along the seafront with my partner and son before walking back home. Another 5 miles to add to my total, which means I'mover the 50 mile target now!

45.7 miles done!

Sunday 18th Jan
I will keep on walking even when I get to 50 miles as I have some walks planned for the rest of January .  I've loved this challenge, it has given me so much positivity, just when I needed it and it has brought me so much joy walking with a purpose, whether on my own, or walking and talking with friends. I've also felt so supported by reading others' stories about why they are walking via the Challenge Facebook group.

West Pier on my walk today

Afternoon walk down to the beach

Friday 16th Jan
Forgot to turn the app on and then forgot to turn it off so not totally accurate stats. Think I did more than 1.23 miles in less time!

16th January - morning walk

Friday 16th Jan
Walk up to the racecourse and around the community orchard with my friend Caroline and both of our dogs. Beautiful sunny day. Probably a bit more than 3.13 miles but hey!

10th January: walk from Southease to Brighton

Saturday 10th Jan
Beautiful 12 mile walk with my son Joe today. We stayed in a camping pod in Southease last night and walked back to Brighton today with a little detour to have lunch in the Juggs Pub in Kingston. So lovely walking and talking with Joe. Feeling grateful to him for coming with me and for having this opportunity to spend time together.

Day 8 Description

Friday 9th Jan

Day 8: 2.35 mile walk

Friday 9th Jan

30 miles to go...

Friday 9th Jan
I cycled to work yesterday as I was running late. Got caught in the storm on my way home, soaked to the skin  and freezing by the time I got home.  Later today I'm heading to the youth hostel in Southease with my son Joe snd we'll be walking back from there tomorrow,  so more miles will be added to the pot!

Day 5: walking back from school

Tuesday 6th Jan

Day 5: 1.85 mile walk to work

Tuesday 6th Jan
Another cold and frosty morning here in Brighton. Making the most of it before the rain sets in. Had to ditch my new boots today as yhey have given me a big fat blister!

Day 4: Walk back from work

Monday 5th Jan
Almost 2 miles back from work this afternoon.

Day 4: Walk to Work

Monday 5th Jan
Lovely walk to work this morning. Moon still in the sky. Light dusting of snow under foot. Almost 2 miles up and down hills.

Day 3: Sheepcote Valley

Sunday 4th Jan
Beautiful round walk across Sheepcote Valley with a friend Caroline who is also raising money for Dementia UK

Walk Number 2 - 3 Jan

Saturday 3rd Jan
Walk with my mum and Naomi from care home through Abney Hall Park to Red Lion Pub and back along Stockport Road . Frosty and icy. Beautiful sunshine.

First walk done!

Friday 2nd Jan
Walked 4 miles with my mum today around Quarry Bank Mill. Beautiful crisp sunny winter's day. It felt so good to be starting my January walking  together with my mum.

Thanks to everyone and Happy New Year!

Thursday 1st Jan
Thank you to everyone who has donated and Happy New Year to everyone!  Online and offline donations still being accepted so do spread the word! We are travelling up North to visit my mum today and so won't get much walking in today but planning to do a walk with my mum tomorrow which will be a fitting way to start my 50 miles. My mum has always been a keen walker and it's one of the things she and I have always done together.  All the best Kate
