I'm walking 31 Miles in May for Dementia UK

This May, I'm walking 31 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

A Challenge Close to My Heart

Thursday 30th Apr
I never imagined I would be writing something like this.

My mum was recently diagnosed with dementia and since then, life has felt very different. It is hard to explain what it really feels like unless you are living it. You are still with the person you love, but at the same time, things begin to change in ways you are not ready for.

There are moments when she feels like the same mum I have always known and I hold onto those tightly. But there are also moments where I see a different side of her and that can be incredibly difficult. It is not just about memory. It is the small changes, the confusion, the way conversations shift. It can be heartbreaking in ways that are hard to describe.

Being close to someone living with dementia takes a mental and emotional toll. It is something that stays with you even after you leave the room. Some days feel heavy and some days you are just trying to hold it together while being strong for them.

Through everything, my love for my mum has not changed. If anything, it has deepened in a way I did not expect.

That is why I am taking on this challenge. I wanted to do something meaningful, something that could bring even a small bit of purpose to a situation that often feels out of my control. I also want to help raise awareness and support for families who are going through the same thing.

If you are able to support me, whether by donating or simply sharing this, it would mean so much to me:
