Moving Forward with Love: Why I’m Walking 60 Miles This June
My world changed forever last December. That was the month I lost my amazing dad, and to be completely honest, life hasn't been the same since and I know it never will be.
He wasn’t just my dad; he was the most kind, caring, and loving man I have ever met. He was the center of our world, and his absence leaves a space that can never be filled.
The Fight Against Lewy Body Dementia
In 2019, Dad was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia. It is a cruel and challenging condition, but true to who he was, Dad was an absolute fighter. Throughout the entire journey, despite the hurdles the disease threw at him, he never forgot his loved ones. That love was his strength, and it kept us all connected right until the very end.
A June of Firsts: Turning Grief into Action
This coming June brings a milestone I’ve been dreading: my very first Father’s Day without him. The thought of that day being empty felt unbearable, so I decided I needed to channel my grief into something meaningful. I wanted to make a positive impact to mark this bittersweet "first."
That is why I am taking on the 60 Miles in June challenge to raise vital funds for Dementia UK.
I can't be with my dad this Father's Day, but I can honor his fighting spirit by helping other families who are walking the same difficult path we did.
How You Can Help
Dementia UK provides specialist dementia nurses (Admiral Nurses) who give life-changing support to families facing the daily realities of dementia. They were a beacon for us, and I want to ensure no one has to go through this alone.
If you are able to support my journey, here is how you can get involved:
Donate: Every pound raised goes directly to Dementia UK to support families in need.
Share: If you can't donate, please share my blog or fundraising link with your network.
Walk with me: If you see me out clocking my miles this June, wave, say hello, or join me for a mile!
Dad never stopped fighting for us, and now, it’s my turn to lace up my shoes and fight for him. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love, support, and generosity.
For Dad. Always.
