⛳️ 36 Holes for Dementia: In Honour of My Grandad

This year, I’m taking on a challenge that means the world to me, playing 36 holes of golf in one day to raise money for Dementia UK. It’s going to be a long day of walking, swinging, and staying focused, but I’m doing it all for one very special person: my grandad.

My grandad is currently living with vascular dementia, a condition that affects memory, thinking, and daily life. Watching someone you love gradually change is heartbreaking. There are days when things feel familiar and warm, and days when the fog of dementia makes everything harder for him, and for all of us around him.

But one thing that hasn’t changed is how much he means to me.

He’s the one who first taught me how to play golf, out on the course, with patience, laughter, and more than a few tips on my swing. Some of my favourite memories are of those early rounds with him, when golf was just a game between us. It’s now become a way I can honour him, show him how much he’s taught me, and give something back.

Dementia affects so many families. It’s not just about memory loss, it’s about losing pieces of the person you love, bit by bit. Dementia UK provides Admiral Nurses who support families with expert care and guidance. They’ve been a lifeline for so many, and I want to help them reach even more people who are going through what we are.

So on Monday 25th August, I’ll be playing 36 holes in a single day — twice around the course, with my grandad in my heart every step of the way.
