My reasons for walking 62 miles in May...

Dementia can be a very distressing condition, as much for those that suffer with it, as for those that have to deal with it, day to day...

I lost my dad a few years ago to Alzheimer's, and sadly my mum is now succumbing to vascular dementia, a cruel disease that slowly but surely robs the people you love of their character and personality...

I'm aware that at 60 years old, 62 miles is not really very far to walk in a month, but it's a genuine commitment and a reasonable start. My intention is that 62 will be the absolute minimum distance, and that I will walk much further than that, both around my home here next to the River Thames in E14, and elsewhere as me & my And may choose....

If you'd like to sponsor me to help raise money for Dementia UK, an organisation that provides information, help and support to families like mine, that would be brilliant, thank you...

Big love

Birthday city walking in Brussels....

Tuesday 20th May
A fantastic Birthday weekend trip with my And to Brussels resulted (as city breaks usually do) in some good distances being added to my running total...

Infact we walked an impressive 27 miles over our three day stay, taking my new total on Tuesday May 20th (with 11 days still to go) to 86 miles...

Queitly confident now that I'm going to double the target figure....

Going Great Guns: 36 miles in 10 days.....

Sunday 11th May
We're now a third of the way through May, and I'm more than half way through my challenge....
And I'm definitely enjoying it... feels good to get out and walk to places, rather than just get on the DLR or the Tube...

Going well.....

Monday 5th May
Thanks to a combination of starters enthusiasm and the continuing fine weather, my walking efforts have got off to a great start...

I've walked every day (although the 3rd was only really to the shops and back) and have completed 15 miles so far, mostly in and around the Isle of Dogs, making the most of the River Thames and our two lovely parks....

I'm (just) ahead of my distance target and way way  ahead of my sponsorship goal, so massive thanks again to everyone who has contributed so far....

Day One.....

Friday 2nd May
A promising start to the challenge..
The weather is so good here in London at the moment it would be silly not to take advantage of it...
I did a circular walk today to Canary Wharf and back to meet And for tea....
So thats 3.5 miles in the bag....
Thanks again to everyone who supports me...
