Walk 30 Miles in September 2026

I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK

This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

My Mums story

My Mums story

Back in 2020, my mum had to have an MRI scan.
To be told, everything was fine.
In 2024, after being on the list for the memory clinic for 2 years and hearing nothing, my mum couldn't understand why she wasn't being seen.
I asked Mum to request her medical information, which shows a list of everything.
We were highly surprised to discover what the MRI had discovered.
My mum was diagnosed with something called cerebral amyloid Angiopathy.
The Dr advised her they didn't know how to tell her.
This disease, you suffer with confusion and Dementia.
This declines over time, which I have noticed more so in the last year.
The simpliest task or a conversation gets forgotten. The repeating of the same conversation 3 x within the space of 1 hour can become quite frustrating for you, the family member.
The ordering of her prescription or going into an app on her phone.
Things that were so simple before are now a massive stress to my mum.

I am walking 1 mile every day for September 30 miles in total.
Please help me to reach my goal to give just a little even £1.
I will do weekly updates on my September Mission.

Thank you for reading my stories.

My Nans Story

Monday 31st Aug
I would like to tell you my story why Dementia UK charity means so much to me and how I would like to raise money for this awful disease.

This can affect not only the individual with the disease but close family and those who care for people suffering from Alzheimers disease.

"In loving memory of my nan"

My Alzheimer's Story:

My nan had a fabulous memory and then suddenly.
My grandad decided to take my nan to the Dr because he noticed:

1, my nan drove to the wrong place
( supose to drive home but drove to her old house)

2. started forgetting everyday things how many sugars in tea ( when no one had sugars)

3, disorientated and didn't know where she was

4. got confused easy

The Dr suggested this could be the start of dementia.

As my nans behaviour started becoming a lot more difficult to cope with, my parents and grandad decided it would be a better idea for both my grandparents to move in with us.

So in 1987 we extended the house and my grandparents moved in.

The symptoms progressed over the years and very noticeable.

My nan was given a CT SCAN and this was then confirmed my nan had Alzimers.

I remember seeing my nan go from a well built lady and very kind and caring to a very confused, aggressive Lady, down to a bag of bones.

I was called Susan( my mums name) , I was nearly hit and pushed out of the way most days.

People with alzimers go through stages.

Not only do Alzheimer's suffers forget how to do simple tasks like walk and talk, and go to the toilet they also forget how to swallow.

At the later stages, my nan had to wear adult nappies and be fitted with a catheter.

If that isnt bad enough after quite some time of blending food ( easier to swallow)

My nan was fitted with a feeding tube straight into her tummy.

My last memories of my fun nan, was a 4 and half stone bag of bones, dribbling with her head hanging down sitting in her chair in the living room.

My grandad refused to allow help from outside and cared for my nan full time.

It wasn't until her last month that she was taken into a nursing home to basically die.

I remember receiving the call from the home
Telling me they didn't believe she was going to live much longer.

I remember us all driving down to the home.

Seeing my nan lay there and screaming ( i hadn't heard any noise or words for over a year), it was heartbreaking.

This is a horrendous disease, and there is no cure as yet.

Please help me raise money for this amazing charity to help support sufferers, family, and caregivers.
