I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK
This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.
Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.
Thank you!

My reasons
Saturday 29th AugI’m unashamedly reaching out to my fellow contacts in the hope that one or two of you might spare a few quid to help people living with dementia.
It’s something I never thought would directly affect me. ”We’re made from good stock“ I’d chant on repeat, whenever anyone talked about family health. My Gran died a ripe old age of 93 and was a ballsey old bird who didn’t miss a trick! No cancer, no serious health conditions…So I was contented thinking we’d all die peacefully in our sleep with the number 9 proceeding our age.
Mum followed very much in Grans’ footsteps, the matriarch of our family and a woman of great power. She’s always been a great laugh, down to earth and my 'go-to’ for anything and everything.
So imagine my surprise when Mum started forgetting the little things…”David Essex, who’s he?” Only her heart throb of 40 years! ”Erm, how do you make lasagne again?“ her signature dish!!
Bit by bit we’ve watched her slowly regress, wondering if it’s just coincidence or did we just get it wrong????
Christmas 25 was a turning point for Mum, she finally started admitting something wasn’t right but she still hung onto hope that it was medication, illness, her eyes… She’s been to see memory clinic, had some tests and as it stands we don’t know exactly what form of dementia she has or what can be done to help ease or slow its progression. But we do know it’s taking her fast and we’re scared!
I’ve already lost the Mum I had. I can’t send a quick message as she can’t work her phone, I can’t tell her my worries or secrets cause she can’t make sense or keep up with the conversation. She can’t dress herself easily and can’t be left alone due to panicking or getting lost. At some point we as a family will need help..like so many before us and those to come.
Dementia UK helps families and those living with dementia to make sense of the rapid changes happening to everyone in the family. Its staff are on hand to hold ours along the way and they rely on donations to help fund their staff and resources. Nobody should be left to walk this path alone.
If you’re able to, I’d really appreciate it if you could sponsor my 30 miles in September walk. Ted will come along for the journey and I’ll keep you all posted with blogs and piccies.
Thank you
Jilly & Ted
