30 Miles for Mum 💜

This September, I’m walking 30 miles for Dementia UK, for my mum.

Mum had more than her fair share of health battles over the years. She fought cancer more than once, lived with diabetes and faced things that would have floored most people. But out of everything she went through, dementia was the hardest.

I hated what dementia did to her. I hated watching such a strong, independent and intelligent woman slowly lose parts of herself. There were days when it completely broke my heart.

But dementia was never my mum.

She was Joyce. She was my mum, a gran, a sister and a friend. She was funny, stubborn, strong and caring. She spent her life helping other people and she absolutely adored her family.

We lost Mum on 18th August and, if I’m honest, I still can’t quite believe she’s gone. I would give anything for one more conversation, one more laugh, or just to sit beside her and hold her hand.

So I’m doing this for her.

Every one of those 30 miles will be for Mum! To remember her, to honour her and hopefully raise a little money to help another family going through what we did.

Dementia may have changed parts of Mum, but it could never take away who she was or how much she was loved.
