I'm walking 31 Miles in May for Dementia UK

This May, I'm walking 31 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

Losing dad to dementia

Wednesday 27th May
Hi all. As most of you know we very sadly lost my dad in March. He had been fighting cancer for the last 10 years and had been doing remarkably well. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with dementia a little while ago but luckily it was never problematic and he was living independently with it. In November 2025, my mum found him one morning collapsed on the floor, which we later found out was because he had sepsis. We still don't know why, or where he got it but that lead to a long stint in hospital. The sepsis triggered more of the dementia, then being in hospital for so long, as well as catching a couple of infections whilst there, made the dementia worse. He never made it home after being taken into hospital and after months there, he was finally taken to a lovely care home  just down the road from where he was born, where he spent his final two weeks. It has truly been the hardest time of mine and my families lives. Watching the person you love, your hero, slowly turn into someone you don't know is the cruelest and most heartbreaking thing anyone can witness. That's why I have decided to try and raise some money this month in the hope it can help other families and possibly prevent what we have been through. I love you dad, I will always try to make you proud.
