I'm walking 30 Miles in September for Dementia UK

This September, I'm walking 30 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Thank you!

30 Miles for Mum: My Dementia Journey Begins

Monday 17th Aug

I never imagined that I would be writing a blog like this.

Recently, my mum was diagnosed with dementia, and like so many families who hear those words, we are trying to find our way through something we never expected to face.

There are so many emotions that come with a diagnosis like this — sadness, worry, uncertainty and, at times, a feeling of helplessness. But alongside all of that, there is love. So much love.

And that is why, this September, I’ve decided to do something for Mum.

I’m taking on a 30-mile walking challenge to raise awareness and support for dementia, spreading the miles across the weekends in September.

And I won’t be doing it alone.

Joining me every step of the way will be my two dogs, Cookie & Coco. 🐾🐾

I have a feeling they may be more excited about the walks than I am!

Thirty miles might not sound like a huge distance to some people, but for me, every mile will have a meaning. Every step will be for my mum and for the millions of people living with dementia, as well as the families and carers walking alongside them.

Dementia doesn’t just affect the person who receives the diagnosis. It affects families, friendships and everyday life. It changes things in ways you don’t always understand until you’re living through it yourself.

I’m hoping that by sharing my walks, the good days, the hard days, the tired feet, the muddy paws and everything in between, I can help raise a little more awareness and perhaps encourage people to talk about dementia.

Most importantly, I want Mum to know that she isn’t walking this journey alone.

So, throughout September, I’ll be sharing my progress, our walks and the little moments along the way.

There will probably be plenty of dachshund adventures, a few aching legs and hopefully lots of beautiful memories made along the way.

30 miles. September. One very important reason.

For Mum. ❤️

If you’d like to follow along with my challenge, share the journey, or support dementia awareness in any way, I’d be incredibly grateful.

Here’s to putting one foot in front of the other — one mile at a time.
