I'm walking 30 miles in September
I’m walking 30 Miles in September and raising funds for families affected by dementia. I would be grateful for your support.
An £8 donation could cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.
Thank you!

That’s it! Day 30
Tuesday 30th Sep That’s it folks. Day 30! Exceeded my 30 miles and my fundraising target and had some very enjoyable walks. I’ll keep walking as I feel so good! 1.22 miles to finish off. I checked my Fitbit and I’ve actually done 98 miles in September. That’s fabulous. My knees, hips, back, shoulders and brain thank you. 🙏 Share
Day 29
Monday 29th Sep Another lovely walk in a park to get today’s mile. I had done some shorter walks earlier in the day but thought instead of adding them up, I’d do another whole mile. I also wanted to collect a couple of conkers from the big tree there. It’s such a pleasant walk. Last day tomorrow. Can you believe it? Share
Day 28
Monday 29th Sep Didn’t get out on day 27 so doubled up on today’s walk. However, my Fitbit kept stopping and so there were several activities recorded. I’ve put the whole days activity as it was basically the walk as I spent the rest of the day practically sat on my bum. 2.35 miles. Share
Day 26
Saturday 27th Sep Well, there wasn’t a day 25 walk because I simply didn’t have time yesterday, but today. I made up for it. Every time I work this area, I drive past a park and have wanted to investigate it. Today was the day. It was lovely, lots of trees and wide open spaces. A playground 🛝 for the little ones and lots of friendly dog walker. Lots of dog poo about though and u had to watch where I walked. (Pick up your dog sh!t people!). I speed walked to the park from work and then settled into a much more relaxed pace, just thinking about stuff and enjoying the gentle breeze. I recorded a video to put on the Facebook page and in my own feed, thanking the people who have sponsored me. A lovely walk and I might go again next week to finish off the month. 2.36 miles walked. Share
Day 24
Saturday 27th Sep I didn’t have a chance to walk in between my shifts as I had to travel elsewhere for the afternoon shift. Back home later I needed to pop to the local shop so me and the Bruv took the long way round. Very pleased with a 1.17 mile walk when I really wasn’t feeling it this day. Share
Day 23
Tuesday 23rd Sep I did my extra mile early after my morning shift on the bus. Where I’m working this week is a lovely quiet and leafy area, and I intended doing a fast walk but ended up frequently stopping to take photos of the autumn leaves 🍁 and flowers 🌺.. I’ve got my tap class tonight so wouldn’t have time to walk later but it ended up a really lovely walk. 1.28 miles added and 8 miles left to do in 7 days. Share
Day 22
Monday 22nd Sep I didn’t do anything walkwise yesterday but updating I found I had reached my target miles and my fundraising target. I upped the miles to 40 and the fund target to 230. I dint think I’ll get much more but you never know. Anyway, I got a nice 1.15 mile walk in tonight. With 8 days to go I need to keep walking a bit more than a mile. Fingers crossed 🤞 Share
Day 20
Monday 22nd Sep Another big waking day up that there London. This time headed to Battersea Park to the Jurassic World exhibit, which was fun. We then took a walk along the river and found a little jetty that sold frozen margaritas. A wander round Battersea Power Station looking at all the shops and eateries before walking back to the tube to get back over the other side of the river and a short walk to The Sky Garden for dinner and watched the sun going down and the light coming on all over London. This was the second part of the Bruv’s birthday suprise and it seems we walked less, took the tube more but ended up doing more miles and steps. I think we had more breaks so didn’t seem as long on our poor feet. 8.5 miles and 22,615. No walking tomorrow! 😂 Share
Day 19
Monday 22nd Sep Again no extra walk today but recorded 2.53 miles through work. Also today I was more achy than usual. A big walk never seems to affect you the next day, but rather the day after! I’d also not slept well so go snuggly in front of the telly and nodded off before having an early night. Share
Day 18
Monday 22nd Sep Although I recorded a total of 3.16 miles during work, I didn’t manage to do my extra mile because I was working in the evening too and just didn’t have time. My Fitbit was telling me off for pushing too hard 😂 Share
Day 17
Monday 22nd Sep Today was my brother’s birthday so we took a trip up London for a lovely day out. As it wasn’t a work day, where I walk an extra mile for the challenge, I have included the whole day’s walking. And we walked a lot! From home to the station, from Liverpool Street station to Crosse Keys for breakfast. Walking along the river to The Tower Of London where we walked around for hours. Then a walk around St Katherine’s Dock before going for an Afternoon Tea in The Tower Hotel. Drinkies in The Dickens Inn before walking to Tower Hill tube back to Liverpool Street station. We did intend to walk back to Liverpool Street, but our feet were barking by this point so it could have been more on the day. Then the final walk back home from the station. 7.95 miles and 21,393 steps. A lovely day. Share
Day 16
Wednesday 17th Sep I didn’t have a lot of time today but decided to take a walk up to the shops and come back the long way. Timed it at 1.02 miles but I had “walked” 4 miles in total today. This included my tap class in the evening. Lots of steps, lots of corner to corner work! Knackered now! Share
Day 15
Wednesday 17th Sep Took a walk to Morrisons during my break. It was about 3/4 of a mile so I timed myself on the walk back. Someone my Fitbit turned itself off for 10 minutes, maybe because I walked the other side of the road on the way back? Go figure. Anyway, with a 3.9 miles daily total, I timed 1.3 miles. I’d heard that an old work friend had passed away last week and I knew he liked walking around the same area, to keep himself fit. I thought about him a lot and dedicated today’s walk to him. RIP Tony. We had some laughs, didn’t we? ❤️ Share
Day 14
Monday 15th Sep Just the one mile recorded today. That was the walk back from the station. In total 3.5 miles walked as most of the day was travelling. Also it was hammering down with rain and I just got cozy and had a nap. Ahh does travel make you sleepy? 🤷♀️. Anyway, back at it tomorrow. Still got a few miles to catch up on. Share
Day 13
Saturday 13th Sep Another 6.5 miles in total today but I tracked a lovely walk along the river and a short walk to the shops earlier in the day. Really enjoying getting out and walking. It’s all about raising funds for dementia and getting fitter is a great bonus. Share
Day 12
Friday 12th Sep After recovering from Covid, losing half a toe nail (and an infection in said toenail) set me back with my challenge , I’m back with a bang baby! A trip out helped lower my deficit and now I’m only 4 miles behind. I found this fabulous little silicone toe protector thingy and I don’t feel any pain or discomfort. Blooming marvellous!
Day 8
Tuesday 9th Sep I have done 4 miles today but that includes work, shopping and a 25 minute walk around the house last knockings as I was knackered when I got home and napped. I did intend to do a walk earlier but as I lost half a toenail yesterday, it was persistent in letting me know it wasn’t happy today. I’ve also been advised to wear proper trainers and nog my comfy Velcro trainers 👟. You live and learn, eh?
Day 7
Sunday 7th Sep I had a clear Covid test this morning which is great but I’m still a bit lethargic and muzzy headed . I’m also stir crazy so we went out for a walk in the woods. It did me the world of good but then I always feel happy in woods and forests. It was a gentle amble that took about an hour and a quarter but I did manage 1.73 miles. I did have a bit of a pause as we sat round a duck pond and just listened to the wind in the 🌳 and the odd quack from the ducks 🦆. Share
Day 6 - no more Covid
Sunday 7th Sep Well, days 2, 3, 4 and 5 I hardly moved due to testing positive for Covid at the end of day 1. I had wondered why I’d struggled a bit doing the mile but felt perfectly okay until a few hours later. Anyway Fridays test was still positive but a lot fainter. I still feel a bit washed out but decided to walk around the house for 25 minutes and got my daily mile in. Then I fell asleep after being a bit woozy. Tomorrow, I’m going out regardless of what the test will say. I can avoid people quite easily but I need to get outside! It’s like time off at Christmas 🎄 when you have no idea what day it is! 🤷♀️ Share
Day 1
Monday 1st Sep I thought I might avoid the weather today and squeeze my walk in between showers , but it was not to be. I decided to do a walking exercise on YouTube called Get Fit With Rick. I picked a 20 minute session and was getting into it when I realised it was much faster than a healthy, outdoor walking pace. I did it though, with screaming thighs and hips and made it to the end of video. However, there’s a lot of marching on the spot and I hadn’t quite made the mile so I walked round the house for a few minutes! Let’s hope I can have a nice walk round the park tomorrow…weather permitting. ShareThank you to my Sponsors
