I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK
This January, I’m walking 50 Miles to raise funds for Dementia UK, a cause that’s close to my heart. My grandma lived with dementia before she passed away. She was exceptionally perceptive, clever, funny, and a master at card games and this challenge is my way of honouring her, and giving back in a way I couldn’t at the time.
I’m taking on this challenge to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. Dementia UK’s specialist Admiral Nurses provide vital, life-changing support to families when they need it most.
Your donation, big or small, truly makes a difference. £33 could fund an Admiral Nurse for an hour, helping a family in their community with practical advice and emotional support as they cope with a loved one’s distress.
Thank you so much for your support 💙

Walking with Purpose: 50 Miles for Dementia UK
Thursday 18th Dec
This January, I’m taking on the challenge of walking 50 miles to raise money for Dementia UK. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and it’s deeply personal.
My grandma, Barbara Lillicrap, had dementia before she passed away. Before the illness, she was exceptionally perceptive, clever, and very funny. She had a sharp wit and an incredible memory for card games - she was the kind of person who always seemed one step ahead, quietly working things out while everyone else caught up. Those are the memories of her I hold closest.
As dementia took hold, those parts of her became harder to see. Towards the end of her life, I didn’t visit her. I struggled with the idea of seeing her changed so profoundly, and at the time, I didn’t feel strong enough to cope with that reality. It’s something I’ve reflected on a lot since. While I can’t change that decision now, I can choose to do something meaningful in her memory.
That’s why I’m walking.
Dementia doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed; it impacts families, friends, and carers in ways that are often invisible and overwhelming. Dementia UK does vital work supporting people living with dementia and the loved ones caring for them, particularly through their Admiral Nurses, who provide specialist guidance and compassion when it’s needed most.
Every mile I walk this January is for my grandma, for the woman she was before dementia, and for the countless families navigating the same painful journey. It’s also my way of giving back, of turning regret into action, and of honouring her in a way that feels right.
If you’re able to donate, share, or support in any way, it would mean more than I can say. Thank you for helping me remember her — and for helping Dementia UK continue their incredible work.
