I'm walking 62 Miles in October

I’m walking 62 Miles in October and raising funds so that families affected by dementia get the specialist help and advice they need.

We lost my Dad in 2019 and he was suffering from dementia when he died.

As we all know it’s a cruel disease and unfortunately we probably all know someone whose life has been touched by it.

I would be grateful for your support.

An £10 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline. £33 could fund an hour with a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse, helping a family with practical solutions and emotional support.

Thank you!

My Updates

Completed It

Saturday 18th Oct
Today I did 7.5 miles, which completed the 62 mile target. I chose a route which took me past each of the houses my Dad lived in, from the small terrace he grew up in, to the bungalow that was his final home.
Four of the houses (including one rental while a house was being built) were in Yarmouth, where Dad also worked.
It made me think how far he came, even though he didn’t move more than 5 miles from where he grew up, but thanks to his hard work he provided his family with some beautiful homes. Thanks Dad!!

Anyway, the walks will continue till the end of the month from a sponsorship point of view, but you know what? I’ve loved every mile so I’ll keep walking and will carry my memories of my best mate every step of the way.
See you later mate.

Halfway there

Friday 10th Oct
Happy to say that after ten days I’m halfway there on the distance.
I’ve done  early mornings and some nighttime walks to get this far,  and with a busy few weeks coming at work I can feel the same pattern repeating itself.
Please feel free to dig deep, it really is a good cause and not proving to be the stroll in the park I thought it would be.
My intention is to achieve the 62 miles and then to carry on as far as I can go. Compared to the pain that families go through when affected by dementia, it’s the least I can do.

I’m not proud, I’m asking you to contribute if you haven’t already.
Thank you

Ian.

Sooo generous

Wednesday 1st Oct
Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far, I’m truly touched by your generosity. As I’ve now exceeded my second target of raising £500, and it’s only the 1st October,  it seems silly not to raise the bar again so my target is now £750!!
Thanks again to all that have sponsored me, and to all those who are thinking about it and about to dip their hands into their pockets for this great cause.

Doubled my target

Sunday 7th Sep
Thanks to some amazing friends, I’ve reached my target of £250 already. As I don’t intend to stop at 62 miles, I’ve  doubled my target and so now  I’m aiming to raise £500. Please feel free to click the link and donate to this great charity, any amount is really appreciated I promise.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far, and thank you to all those of you who are  hovering over the donate button, just remember my poor old knees have a combined age of 114!!

Thank you!!!

Monday 1st Sep
Well, firstly thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far, I’m amazed how many people have been so generous so quickly.

Although 62 miles is only 2 miles a day, for the first four days of October I’ll be on a big boat on the way back from the Canary Islands (it’s a tough life I know) so once I’m back I can see some long walks happening as I play catch up.

So between now and when we go away I’ll be walking as much as possible in preparation, as well as endless loops of the ship in warmer climes.

Along with working full time this is going to be a bit of a mission, but every step I take will be for not only my Dad, but everyone else I know that has been touched by this disease.

Thank you all again for donating already, and thank you in advance to the rest of you who can’t wait to donate soon!
