62 Miles in October - Dementia UK
My mum was officially diagnosed with Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in her early 50’s, the journey was long to receive the official diagnosis and heartbreaking to watch the condition take grip, our lives changed dramatically in a short period of time and roles reversed quickly, the future is unsettling to think about however mum has always been and will continue to be my inspiration in life, someone who is irreplaceable ❤️ Prior to mums diagnosis she was strong, and independent, something that has been hard to watch slip away but to this day I believe she still holds some of that fire.
One piece of advice I picked up along the way is to focus on who your loved one is today, not who they used to be. Me and my family are lucky enough to still get smiles and good days from mum, something I know many people aren’t as fortunate with and we treasure these.
In the moments that seem dark there is support available for families going through this, I recently welcomed my daughter into the world, and together we will be walking 62 Miles in October to help raise funds so that families affected by dementia can get the specialist help and advice they need, something my family found helpful & comforting in the early stages of my mums diagnosis.
A £10 donation can cover the telephone costs of two families seeking support through Dementia UK's free Helpline.
Any donation makes a difference. Thank you for your support ♥️
