Walk 62 Miles in October

My Activity Tracking

I'm now walking 100 Miles in October

My original target was to walk 62 Miles in October to raise funds for Dementia UK.

I have a very close family member who was diagnosed with Dementia a year ago, she is now 62.

So the number is relevant and symbolic to our family, but chosen by this Dementia charity because it represents 2 miles a day during October.

But I reached that target half way through the month so have a new target of 100 miles in October, continuing with a minimum two miles each day.

I hope that my family member will join me on some of the walks, including areas relevant to her throughout her life to date, so an added benefit.

Please support if you can. All donations welcome as we look to help families affected by dementia to get the specialist help and advice they need.

Thank you!

My Updates

You lovely people 🥰 Revised targets achieved. 100 miles and £1500 🎉

Wednesday 29th Oct
What a day, 28 of the 31 in October!!

I completed my 100th mile in the company of the England Rugby League squad as they prepare for the second Test against Australia, what an experience.

Then through the generosity of all of my donors, including one that effectively moved the amount raised by over £200 to the precise £1500 target, WE have done it 👏👏👏👏

Two days to go and no let up on my part, hoping I might get to 110 miles or so.

Thank you all so very much. ❤️

Last week !

Sunday 26th Oct
The month has passed by  really quickly, so Im pleased with my self discpline, getting out walking every single day so far for a minimum of 2 miles (excluding  my normal day to day “steps”).

Im actually averaging closer to 4 miles a day and with 5 days remaining still hopefully of achieving my revised fundraising target of £1,500.

Thanks again to all those who have already donated to the  c £1,2000 (plus gift aid), its really appreciated and makes all those “wet walks” like today, extra worthwhile.

Half Way Point - Targets Increased !!!

Thursday 16th Oct
Our 22 months old granddaughter accompanied me on the latest 2.7 miles dementia walk today, albeit she was aided by the pram!

As I reach the half way point of the challenge, I have pretty much reached the 62 mile target for the month set by the charity. So clearly I have walked almost twice as far as the 2 miles per day required 👌

As I intend to meet that minimum 2 miles per day target for the remainder of October, its therefore only right that I re-calibrate the target.

100 miles for October seems a nice round number so lets go with that.

And as the £1000 target has also been reached, I will flex that too to £1500 and hope that even more generous people offer support to this wonderful charity, Dementia UK.

Thank you all so much.

50 miles achieved!

Tuesday 14th Oct
Day 14 and thats 50 miles done (excluding my normal steps) with todays walk just over 4 miles across in Chester. Plus further kind donations pushing the monies raised for this amazing charity ever so close to the £1,000 target. And there is still over half of the month left!! You are wonderful people, thank you.

Day 12

Sunday 12th Oct
Trying to shake off a disappointing day for Wigan sport by planning a walk for today. Really pleased with my progress so far on this challenge with 39 miles completed in 11 days.  That excludes my “normal steps”. Onwards!!!

Market Bosworth

Wednesday 8th Oct
My very own Battle of Bosworth! How to fit two walks into a packed itinerary for our Caledonian Board Away Day???

I shouldnt have been concerned because the immediate area is stunning and conjusive to walks.

One walk in the evening and then one walk the following morning, both around 2.5 miles centred on the Country Park.

Day 4 …. Will it ever stop raining

Saturday 4th Oct
Im not complaining (too much) but I hadnt banked on the first four days of October being so wet and windy 🤦‍♂️ ☔️ 💨

A challenge it is though, so I havent made excuses and pointed to having a month to complete the 62 miles. Instead I am treating it literally as a minimum of 2 miles each and every day and that the 2 miles minimum should comprise individual walks. And that is what I have done. 5 walks totalling  18 miles (thanks Strava) and a further 2 miles in usual steps etc. 20 miles in total. A pleasing start.

Day 2

Thursday 2nd Oct
Finished day 1 with a second, longer, walk of 6 miles, so a healthy 10 miles in the day.

Busy today day 2, with grandparenting in the morning and a business event all afternoon. But Im determined to cover at least 2 miles in one walk every day (in addition to normal steps), so I ignored the rain (again) and did just that early evening. Really glad I made the effort.

Day 1. Up and ….. walking.

Wednesday 1st Oct
Solo walk to kick things off, in pretty lousy weather. 3.5 miles is a solid start. I want to walk at least that every day, more than the 2 miles a day, 62 miles in the month, challenge.
