Walk 31 Miles in May 2026

Join the Facebook group for Walk 31 miles in May challenge.

I'm walking 31 Miles in May for Dementia UK

This May, I'm walking 31 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour

My grandad has dementia and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone sometimes he has good days but some days are bad but he has a great team who look after him and a lovely dementia advisor. So please if you can support this charity because everyone deserves to support those with dementia.

Thank you!

My Updates

Why I started this walk

Sunday 31st May
All of my best childhood moments were with these two my mums parents we spent soo much time at there house weekends were fun! The bus journeys the adventures we would go on the trips to Bristol zoo the Weymouth holiday every August. They were always present in my life and my cousins growing up they always knew how to make us feel at home. My grandad have had dementia over 3 years diagnosed but could of had it longer bless him, he had good and bad days but the good days and the memories my grandad shares with me about my nan is precious dementia had a funny way of affecting him, but every day he always calls out for my nan a angel in his eyes the love of his life who’s never been replaced or forgotten true love has a way of staying even on the bad days. I never grew up knowing about dementia or mental health until I started working in mental health I have learned a lot and seen a lot more and I’m soo happy my grandad has some truly amazing people looking after him especially the dementia team who are always in his best interest to keep him in his home thank you everyone for donating it truly is helping someone with dementia so I thank you for helping someone like my grandad

We started the day off getting mc Donald’s breakfast for my grandad and surprised him with it at 8am he was on true form and such is wonderful self asking my son about our hippodrome trip my son finds it hard sometimes but said he loved seeing pop which was soo lovely to her a total of 57.65milea done! Been a while an update! Today we walked 2.69 miles across and around Weston super mare kids in tow too, boiling 33 degrees total miles this month 50 miles for dementia uk! Been doing dedicated walks . Have many more walks planned this week with my two kids in tow😊 school holidays are always fun!

My grandad

Saturday 16th May
This is my grandad he never thought he could get out of bed as he’s been bedbound for the last 3 years or so, and recently he’s got a hoist a chair and he finally got in it with the help of a ot lady, my grandad was a big kid like he’s never been in a chair before seeing his face light up in the way it hasn’t for a long time made me feel like he had his hope back in his eyes. After putting him back into bed he forgot completely he was in his chair. The dementia made him believe he’s been in his bed this whole time until I took this photo of him. Which I show him every time so he can see he can sit in the chair again. Dementia may make him forget things but he’s such a lovely man all the carers love him and the support we have from the council and the dementia team are amazing I’d be lost without the information they gave me to help me care for my grandad. He’s still the man I remember in there and he’s never forgotten me yet. He’s like a dad to me someone who has always stayed in my life and gave me wisdom maybe too much but this is why I’m walking for dementia uk because people need to help support thoses who may not have family and friends to help them who may have family and friends but don’t really know how to help. It takes a village to raise a child but sometimes that village needs the child to help them one day too so please donate if you can I’d be soo grateful even if we can help one person . Walked 2 miles yesterday I’m going to keep going to see how many I can do, but I’m only including the walks I fit in just for dementia uk

Walk along Leigh woods

Wednesday 13th May
Did a 3.14mile walk through Leigh woods Walked along the river with beautiful views on the suspension bridge, all the walks I go on I show my grandad photos off as I am now my grandads eyes putside of his home . With every photo sometimes an old memorie may pop up something may have changed now but my grandad sometimes remembers how is was which is always lovely to hear his story’s. He asked me for photos of Bristol zoo which is a shame it’s shut down he use to love taking me and his other grandkids there something to always treasure. Dementia has had a big impact on my grandad but every day is different and in someways you never know what version you have of him the happy go chatty guy, the grandads who’s moany lol or the grandad who’s memory isn’t what it was and on some other days he could sleep most of the time is soo draining but I will defo be with him all of the way through this he is one kind brave man and forever my grandad so let’s see if we can reach the target of £200 to hopefully help someone like my grandad who suffers with dementia and needs the extra help thank you soo much for supporting this good cause I really do appreciate all your support

The reason I’m raising for dementia uk

Tuesday 28th Apr
Dementia doesn’t just affect one person it touches the whole family. It’s something I see up front everyday as I care for my grandad who has always been like a dad to me such an important person in my life and now it’s my turn to be there for him. I’ve been there  from the first diagnosed having dementia which was hard for him to come to terms with.

Caring for someone with dementia can be challenging sometimes. There are moments of confusion, repetition and change that can be hard to navigate.

But there are also moments of connection my grandad tells me story’s from his life. Tells me story’s of my childhood he still gives me advice when I’m down he may not remember them all but going to see him consistently he has never forgot who I am and I’m soo lucky to have him in my life. He’s bed bound and always wants to get out of bed and this year will be the year he’s hoisted out of bed for me to take him in his garden. A garden he once loved and I’ve been working hard on for his one wish to come to life . He forgets he’s been hoisted before but I’m there giving him encouragement to keep going as we need to make sure hes safe to do it

Even though some days can be hard it’s affected my life completely and I wouldn’t change it for the world because he was always there for me and now I’m there for him.  Every day is a challenge but every moment with him is worth it.

So please I ask even if u can donate £1 it’s something to go to a good cause because there are so many people with dementia out there that need all the help they can. I’m going to cherish all the moments I have left with him as I made a promise to my nan to always be there for him.

Always be good to the people who have always been good to you.
