I'm walking 50 Miles in January for Dementia UK

This January, I'm walking 50 Miles and raising funds to help ensure no family faces dementia alone. I'm taking on the challenge for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, and would be grateful for your support.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support to cope with their loved one’s distressed behaviour.

Dementia and Mum - Our Story

So........ The year was 2017, and mum had moved back to Scotland, where she was born and bred, following retirement in the Retail industry in Burnham-On-Sea, Somerset, where she had spent 37 years bringing up my brother and me.
Like most boys, my brother and I had provided many challenges to our Mum, both good and bad! No doubt, causing stress along the way.
Following the years where Mum has moved back to the village of her birth, my brother and I noticed some changes. Mum's memory wasn't the same anymore, and in 2022, after various doctors' appointments, we eventually got a Dementia diagnosis.
Although not a surprise, given our suspicions, it was shocking nonetheless.
Move onto 2026, with my brother living 608.5 miles from mum and me living 509.3 miles from mum, this has provided quite the logistical challenge; however, given my brother's unwavering commitment to our mum's wellbeing and my bloody-mindedness towards driving up there, we seem to have found a way of working. Hopefully many more years to come from Mum
