hours of free helpline support from a dementia specialist Admiral Nurse

I'm making Time for a Cuppa

By the time you've made your brew, another person will have developed dementia. I'm going to bake, brew and raise vital funds for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity.

Your donation, big or small, makes a difference. £21 could pay for the telephone costs of four families calling our free Helpline whenever they need support. £33 could fund a new dementia specialist Admiral Nurse to spend an hour helping a family in the community, offering practical solutions and emotional support. I am really grateful for any support you can give.

Thank you!

Jim’s story

Sunday 5th Apr
Back in November 2021, we celebrated my Nan and grandad’s (Dot & Jim) 60th wedding anniversary. A lovely day surrounded by all our loved ones. A week later Jim was booked in for a standard procedure in hospital, and that’s when things changed for our family.  In the weeks following the procedure Jim was in and out of hospital multiple times, seemed the procedure caused a clot, and the clot triggered a series of heart attacks, this was made even more stressful by the then Covid restrictions, meaning visiting was impossible - Jim was confused,  distressed and isolated.
After a few months things seems to be heading in the right direction, we got Jim home, he began to build his strength back up and put the weight he had lost back on, but things weren’t quite right. He just wasnt 100% himself. Got frustrated and agitated easily, was hyper focused on tasks or ideas  and wouldn’t let them go, and his memory seemed to be fading. Several months, appointments and tests later, we got the devastating results - mixed dementia (vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s)
This has by far been the hardest journey, we continue to navigate the path, take each day as it comes, the rough with the smooth. It’s complexed and sometimes feels there is nowhere to turn, but our main focus is keeping grandad comfortable, and content.
